This involves data collection, accurate recording and analyzing of Trauma/Burn patients that meet criteria for inclusion utilizing computerized registry software. Position Summary:
The Trauma Data Analyst is responsible for maintaining the Trauma Registry in compliance with National Trauma Data Standards. This includes collecting, accurately recording, and analyzing data for trauma and burn patients who meet inclusion criteria using specialized registry software. Data will be gathered from multiple sources to ensure all required elements are complete. This role supports the mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
- Maintain and update the Trauma Registry according to national guidelines.
- Perform concurrent chart abstraction, coding, and scoring for trauma cases.
- Identify patients for inclusion based on established criteria using ED charts, PI data, hospital systems, and electronic health records.
- Develop and run reports/queries from the trauma registry:
- Generate standard reports for monthly Performance Improvement (PI) activities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as needed.
- Assist with maintaining compliance for trauma center verification as directed by the Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Coordinator, and Lead Trauma Analyst.
- Maintain daily admission logs.
- Coordinate and abstract data for Performance Improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Experience:
- Experience with data abstraction for patient registries.
- Background in information technology.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EPIC preferred).
- ICD-10-CM and CPT coding knowledge.
- Completion of ATS registrar exam, CSTR, AAAM injury scale coding exam, and CAISS within three years of employment.
- Familiarity with AIS (Abbreviated Injury Scale) and ISS (Injury Severity Score).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database management, and report writing.
- Understanding of trauma registry standards and regulations.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Education:
- Associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
Certifications:
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
