Overview:
This position is located at Mercy Joplin
Full Time Evenings/Nights 5:30 pm - 2 am
Under general supervision, the Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsible for cleaning, inspecting, testing, assembling, and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions, hospital policies, and departmental procedures. This includes:
- Performing decontamination, high-level disinfection, and sterilization processes.
- Ensuring all instruments are free of bioburden and function properly before use.
- Accurately documenting all processes and equipment usage in written logs and/or computer systems.
- Prioritizing instrument processing, answering phones, and coordinating the dispatch of instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Upholding Mercy's Mission, Values, and Service Standards.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Required Education: High school graduate or equivalent
- Preferred Experience: Prior healthcare related experience, basic knowledge of sterilization processes in a clinical setting.
- Other: Basic computer skillsMust be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).Must interact with staff and co-workers across a diverse range of disciplines.Must be able to follow directions.Must be able to operate equipment.The physical demands described here are the representative of the minimums that must be met by an employee to perform all essential functions of the job. Most physical demands are below:Frequent: high/mid/low level lift of items weighing around 25 pounds Frequent: hand coordination
