 Mercy Kids Social Worker

Location: St. Louis

Department: Mercy Kids

Schedule: 8am-4pm, Full-time, 40 hours a week

 

 

Job Summary:

Mercy is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our Mercy Kids team. This role provides essential social work services to patients and families, enhancing their psychosocial functioning and supporting their emotional and social needs. The Social Worker will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and discharge planning, in alignment with Mercy's mission, values, and service standards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide therapy, counseling, and case management.
  • Advocate for patients and families, ensuring their voices are heard in care planning.
  • Coordinate discharge planning and connect families with appropriate community resources.
  • Assess and intervene in cases of abuse or neglect, making necessary referrals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and participate in clinical staffings.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Stay current with regulatory standards and participate in policy reviews.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families to promote adaptation and compliance.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) required.
  • Candidates who have completed all MSW requirements and are awaiting degree conferment may be considered.

Licensure:

  • Current Social Work license in the state of employment (LMSW or LCSW) required.

Experience:

  • 0–2 years of experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong verbal and written communication and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent assessment, time management, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate care across neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and clinical aspects of medical social work.
  • Effective interpersonal skills across all organizational levels.
  • Valid driver's license and current motor vehicle registration.

  • Comply with patient rights and hospital safety regulations.
