Overview:
Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree from NAACLS Accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: Three years working experience as a pathologist's assistant or five years other medical experience.
Certification(s): ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist ASCP-PA / AAPA Pathologist Assistant certification.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
- Knowledge:
• Understanding of specimen processing and histologic techniques.
• Familiarity with clinical history documentation, including scans, x-rays, and laboratory data. - Skills:
• Proficiency in dictating gross descriptions and performing dissections.
• Skill in preparing tissues for histologic processing and selecting appropriate samples.
• Competence in using and maintaining pathology equipment. - Abilities:
• Ability to assist pathologists with special procedures and frozen sections.
• Capability to photograph specimens and maintain cleanliness in pathology areas.
• Ability to perform postmortem examinations and obtain biological specimens for analysis.
• Ability to adhere to safety protocols and dress code standards.
