Overview:

 

Maintains the appearance and sanitation of all areas of Mercy Hospital including, but not limited to patient rooms, diagnostic testing rooms, waiting areas, staff areas, examination rooms, and operating rooms in accordance with infection control regulations. Disposes of trash,recyclables, and medical waste according to policies and procedures. Regularly wears personal protective equipment (PPE). Uses bleach on an ongoing basis along with other hospital approved disinfectants and cleaning products. Operates both a pager and computers to receive and send communication about patient rooms. Hangs cubicle curtains as needed. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, guiding principles and Mercy Service Standards. Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Job Description: 

  The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and sanitation tasks throughout the healthcare facility to ensure compliance with infection control standards and regulatory requirements. This position plays a critical role in promoting a healthy and hygienic environment conducive to patient healing and well-being.  

•    Clean and disinfect patient rooms, examination rooms, surgical suites, other healthcare areas and EVS equipment according to established protocols.
•    Dispose of medical waste, routine waste, linens, and hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations and infection control guidelines.
•    Replenish supplies, such as soap, paper towels, and hand sanitizers, to ensure availability for patients, staff, and visitors. Change curtains as needed.
•    Clean and sanitize communal areas, including waiting rooms, corridors, restrooms, and staff lounges, to maintain cleanliness and tidiness.
•    Monitor and replenish restroom supplies, such as toilet paper, soap, and hand towels, as needed.
•    Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors using appropriate cleaning techniques and equipment to remove dirt, stains, and debris.
•    Adhere to infection control policies and procedures, including proper hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and isolation precautions.
•    Maintains a high level of customer service and guest relations by responding to calls in a timely manner.
•    Participate in training sessions and educational programs to stay informed about infection control best practices and emerging pathogens.
•    Follow manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines when operating cleaning equipment to prevent accidents and injuries.
•    Assist the transfer of site-generated hazardous waste to on-sites staging areas. Directs storage of site-generated hazardous waste in the hazardous waste staging areas. 
•    Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Preferred Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Other: Must be able to read and understand basic instructions. The physical demands described here are the representative of the minimums that must be met by an employee to perform all essential functions of the job.  Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
