Overview:

 

Provide intervention to educate, prepare and support children through tests and procedures. Plan, implement and supervise activities and special events to normalize hospital environment and promote socialization and normal development. Advocate for special of families and patients. Promote the role of parents and the philosophy of patient and family centered care. Supervise students and volunteers.

 

Job Description:

  • Provides for safety of patients with all therapeutic activities.
  • Represents Child Life Department within MCH, the community, educational facilities and special interest groups.
  • Flexible in scheduling for department needs.
  • Effectively manages supplies and purchases for department.
  • Provides pre-op tours as needed.
  • Coordinates special events with volunteers, organizations, entertainers, etc.
  • Provides pre-op tours as needed.
  • Educates departments within MCH about role of CCLS and maintains availability for assistance to other departments as needed.
  • Orients patients and/or families to services and evaluates patients' needs.
  • Develops patient goals and treatment plan specific to needs.
  • Facilitates appropriate group and individual treatment in accordance with goals.
  • Reassess patient goals to reflect patient changes.
  • Procures supplies and equipment within budget requirements.
  • Utilizes support staff and volunteers appropriately.
  • Completes documentation within appropriate time limit, i.e. weekly team conference reports, daily treatment notes, etc.
  • Provides patient and family education in a clear and concise manner throughout care.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technical and therapeutic advances and provides education to others.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in related Child Life field and internship in appropriate area.

Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) through American Heart Association is required upon hire. Must be eligible for certification through the Association of Child Life Professionals.

Other Skills: Strong background in child development and medical terminology

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience: 2 years' experience in child related education or medical care facility Certification(s): Certification through the Association of Child Life Professionals
