Med Surg Overview:
Mercy Fort Smith's Med Surg Service Line is made up of 7 specialty units that will provide experience with patient populations with a varying range of diagnoses and care needs. Functionally, these units house and care for patients who are preparing for or recovering from medical and surgical interventions. While you will have a “home unit”, we cross-train our nurses between the various specialties to provide a strong foundational knowledge of all types of patient conditions, comorbidities, procedures, etc. Whether you are a new grad nurse looking to build a strong base before launching into your future career/educational plans or an experienced nurse who enjoys variety in their every day work, Med Surg is the place for you!
Surgical Details:
- Patient Population: Gastric Bypass, and any surgery that deals with the abdominal areas
- All 29 rooms are equipped for cardiac telemetry. The purpose of this unit is to provide close monitoring and nursing care to adult surgical patients, specifically abdominal, thoracic, and vascular and other surgeries.
- Nurse to Patient Ratio: 6:1
- # of Beds: 26
- UAP to patient ratio: 9:1
- Any unique notes/awards/technology/anything worth putting in the blurb: Energetic, rapidly evolving, and multitude of different aspects of nursing

Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 3 years bedside related experience
- Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
- Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
- Certifications:Must have American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or complete a course within probationary period. Must have ACLS and BLS or obtain within 90 days of hire.
