Overview:

  • Patient Evaluation:1.1 Demonstrates ability to interpret physicians referrals.
  •  Identifies rehab precautions, contraindications in common diagnoses.
  • Seeks consultation from staff for advisement in more complex situations.
  •  Demonstrates ability to assess non-referred injuries and demonstrates appropriate judgment in referring injuries to a physician.
  •  Obtains all pertinent information from the patient chart prior to initial evaluation, including significant past medical history, present medical surgical interventions.
  •  Consults with physicians, other caregivers and staff for further clarification as needed.
  •  Obtains pertinent subjective information during evaluation.Patient Evaluation:2.1 Chooses, utilizes and applies appropriate evaluation procedures.2.
  •  Demonstrates technical skill and accuracy in performing evaluation procedures on various diagnoses.2.3 Seeks consultation from higher level staff members, as needed, when performing in more complex situations.2.
  • Utilize information from other disciplines for the evaluation.Patient Evaluation:3.1 Demonstrates ability to recognize general mental, emotional and cognitive status.Patient Evaluation:Discusses evaluation findings along with setting and discussing measurable appropriate goals with the patient based on estimated length of recovery for various diagnoses and documents these goals.
  •  For more complex situations seeks assistance from higher level staff members, as needed.
  • Patient Rehabilitation: Reviews chart prior to treatment session and recognize information which requires alteration of treatment interventions. In more complicated situations seeks guidance from appropriate personnel. Incorporates data obtained into treatment session.
  • Utilizes subjective and objective evaluation results to plan appropriate treatment program which focuses on strength, neuromuscular control, joint mobility, soft tissue integrity, pain, balance, coordination, posture, cardiopulmonary function, endurance, gait and functional abilities.
  • Progress treatment in a timely manner  Seeks guidance with progression of more complicated patients, as needed
  • .Patient Rehabilitation:Appropriately monitors physiological and psychological response to treatment.
  • Frequently recognizes abnormal physiological or psychological signs and takes appropriate action.
  • Reports these to M.D. and appropriate personnel.
  • Seeks consultation forquestionable situations, as needed by manager/supervisor.
  • Patient Rehabilitation: Instructs patient and family in their participation with the rehabilitation program
  • Provides each patient with appropriate updated written home program on an as needed basis and at discharge.
  •  Involves patient and family as appropriate in evaluation, treatment planning and discharge.
  • Patient Rehabilitation:
  • Recognizes need for and participates in discharge planning. Includes recommendations for discharge. Consults with higher level whenappropriate.
  •  Makes recommendations for continuation of off-site rehabilitation program following discharge. Seeks most appropriate and cost effective procedures.Patient Rehabilitation:
  •  Utilizes appropriate modalities that include but are not limited to heat, cold, light, water, sound, electricity, mobilization, phoresis, debridement, and therapeutic exercise with or without assistive equipment.
  • Presents rationale for selection of particular methods or procedures.
  • Participates in individual patient care team conference, clinics, rounds for purpose of coordinating patients plan of care. Makes verbal reports regarding patients status.
  • Utilizes current information and concepts for patient evaluation and treatment.
  • Follows St. John's Sports Medicine MD protocols unless otherwise directed by outside physician referral.Administrative/Organizational Duties:10.1 Has working knowledge of job duties 


Qualifications:

  •  Graduate of athletic training program from accredited college or university.
  • Licensure: State of practice licensure or eligible for Athletic Trainer.Experience: None.Certification/Registration: Certification through the Board of Certification, Inc.
  • The individual is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. Professional Rescuer CPR or its equivalent.
  • Other skills & knowledge:(skills, knowledge, abilities)Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: This individual must be trained and capable of performing patient care and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed.Working Conditions, Mental +and Physical Requirements: Clinical and/or Outreach Athletic Training settings. The individual must be very adaptable and willing to work occasional odd hours. There will be occasional weekend work and travel required throughout the year.Equipment Used: Therapeutic Modalities, Thermal and Electric Modalities, Computer, Dictaphone, Cellular Phone, Therapeutic Equipment
  • .PREFERREDEducation: Master's Degree in athletic training or related field is preferred.Experience: Preferred, not required.Certification: National Athletic Trainers Association certification as an athletic trainer.
