Find your calling at Mercy! The Associate Counsel provides independent legal counsel across multiple functional areas, advises leaders, and manages selected projects. This role supports the mission and values of a nonprofit, patient-centered health system by providing practical legal guidance that enables operational and clinical teams to meet strategic objectives while maintaining regulatory compliance. Position Details:

This particular role will focus on supporting Mercy's regulatory and corporate operations, including physician contracting and arrangements. Skills desired include the following:

  • Healthcare Regulatory Expertise: Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory frameworks affecting health system operations, including Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA, with the ability to structure compliant physician and business arrangements.
  • Healthcare Transactions and Affiliations: Experience supporting regulatory aspects and models for structuring affiliations, joint ventures, physician alignment models, and other strategic transactions within integrated delivery systems.
  • Corporate Governance and Structure: Expertise in corporate law to maintain the health system's legal entities, ensure proper governance structures, facilitate corporate approvals, and provide guidance on compliance with corporate and nonprofit legal requirements.
  • Regulatory Strategy and Risk Management: Ability to interpret evolving federal and state healthcare regulations and provide practical, risk-based guidance that supports operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to partner with compliance, clinical, operational, and executive leaders to integrate regulatory requirements into system initiatives and policies.
