This position reports to the Mercy VP Finance, Chief Financial Officer- Clinics/Ambulatory Care and is responsible for the direction and leadership of the financial reporting and transaction-based functions and systems for the Springfield Region Physicians. The Executive Director of Clinic/Ambulatory Finance facilitates the effective financial processes associated with general accounting, cash management, fixed assets, and all related internal controls. Ensures all financial statements are produced in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Supports Mercy-wide finance functions to ensure financial statement integrity, appropriate internal controls and regulatory compliance. Seeks the support of all departments and services in maintaining strong fiscal controls and is responsible for overall fiduciary oversight and financial input into decisions made in these business/ministry units. The Executive Director of Finance will provide daily supervision and staff development plans for direct reports and will perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Provides administrative direction for the Springfield Community financial functions, management and co-workers. This includes working in conjunction with Executive Director of Finance Shared Services to provide best practice general accounting, cash management, fixed assets and all related financial activities. Supports Mercy-wide finance functions to ensure financial statement integrity, appropriate internal controls and regulatory compliance. Participates in Mercy financial reporting and consolidation process. Ensures appropriate leaders are informed as to financial performance of applicable business units
Participates as a member of the senior leadership/administrative team for Springfield Community physicians and ambulatory care entities. Ensures financial and fiduciary input into the direction of all significant decisions and strategic objectives. Provides financial analysis and interpretation of same for business opportunities as they present.
Participates in presentations to Springfield Community Boards and Committees relative to financial performance, integration activities and strategic direction/analysis.
Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and communication of physician compensation for employed physicians within the Springfield Communities.
Assists and supports financial planning and analysis for 1) preparation and review of the annual operating/capital budget process; 2) development and review of variance financial analyses/pro formas and; 3) preparation and review of long-range financial plans.
Ensures that financial transactions and procedures meet all regulatory requirements associated with external financial audit and all other government filings. Directs financial support for the year-end financial audit, coordinates governmental reporting through the Mercy tax management and ensures Integrity of Information supporting cost report filings.
Creates and encourages an environment that focuses on appropriate internal controls, policies and procedures to mitigate risk and maintain high level of integrity. Works closely with Corporate Compliance and Internal Audit to accomplish this goal.
Plans and implements various reimbursement initiatives in coordination with MRM leadership. Participates in the preparation of appeals of federal and state reimbursement issues and the negotiation of their final settlement.
Completes special projects as directed by VP Finance/Chief Financial Officer
Managerial responsibilities- makes appropriate decisions regarding the hiring of new coworkers, maintains day-to-day direct supervision of staff, completes evaluations thoroughly and timely, and handles all staff disciplinary issues, etc. Additional responsibilities include all training of staff and assistance in maintaining departmental coworker satisfaction. Keeps co-workers informed of changing policies, procedures, and major decisions affecting them by holding routine staff meetings. Monitors employee progress on delegated tasks.
Because you're committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That's why you'll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Requires a minimum of seven years accounting or financial management experience in healthcare finance or comparable accounting position. Strong preference for experience working with physicians.
Other: 1. Strong analytical and reasoning abilities. 2. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups. 3. Strong communication skills, ability to interact with board level individuals and senior executives. 4. Computer literacy with intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. 5. Knowledge of proper financial statement formats and disclosures required under GAAP. 6. Ability to work with and preserve confidential information.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting Masters in Business Administration
Preferred Licensure: CPA preferred
Preferred Experience: Healthcare financial reporting experience and financial planning/analysis. Strong preference for experience working with physicians.
