General Summary of Position
The Senior Director reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and has accountability for the management of financial, human, and material resources, to ensure quality, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of patient care services for the Department of Nursing. Recognized as a professional role model and promotes an environment that supports the goals, mission, vision, philosophy and values of the Department of Nursing, f MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and MedStar Health.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Builds trusting collaborative relationships with all members of the health care environment.
  • COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Creates an environment that values opinion sharing and utilizes shared decision-making.
  • COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Hires, evaluates, coaches, mentors, develops, promotes, disciplines, and, when necessary, terminates to achieve behaviors aligned with the organization's vision, mission, and values.
  • COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Establishes, develops, and maintains effective relationships, working agreements and quality partnerships that value diversity.
  • COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Collaborates with nursing management and staff in the assessment of financial and productivity variance.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Responsible for supporting the formulation, monitoring and variance tracking of annual budget for the Department of Nursing to include break out by Clinical Service Areas.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Responsible for activities such as assimilation of raw data, compilation of statistics, display of data, control of fiscal and production activities for the purpose of budgetary analysis and development.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Develops, implements, and evaluates key statistics, reports, and forecasting models to support strategic initiatives.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Assist in decision making, analysis and utilization of resources.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Develops, implements, and evaluates review and analysis of budget for nursing oversight areas as it relates to nursing resources.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Establishes and maintains a capital budgeting process, engaging key stakeholders in identifying needs, developing processes to monitor acquisition of items, and forecasting for future needs.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Works collaboratively with counterparts in the Finance Department at MWHC and MSH to ensure alignment with hospital and enterprise processes.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Collaborate with hospital Finance Department and MSH Nursing to achieve financial and strategic goals. Develops, implements and evaluates methods and processes to assist nurse leaders in the acquisition of financial management skills.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Provides project management and leadership of select Department of Nursing initiatives.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Works collaboratively with the nursing leadership team to develop, implement, and manager a budget, which supports organizational objectives, patient care standards and quality of care.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Monitors and analyzes departmental performance data; and identifies and participates in performance improvement opportunities.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Participates on hospital committees, task forces and projects at the request of the Chief Nursing Officer.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Provides oversight to applications and programs that assist, monitor, and optimize nursing operations through data and analytical solutions.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Administers financial management over the philanthropic grants made to Department of Nursing as it relates to special restricted fund projects and general administration of grant funds.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Supervises the administration and management of contracts and agreements assigned to the Department of Nursing, ensuring proper evaluation of new services, renewals, and terminations.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Responsible for the oversight and administration of labor productivity data platform and reporting.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Maintains and updates reporting metrics to MWHC senior leadership regarding productive hours for Department of Nursing against various benchmarks.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Develops and distributes routine financial reports that track various I&E metrics to Department of Nursing senior leadership and MSH nursing leadership teams.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Maintains and updates analytic tools for unit and senior leadership to monitor and improve their FTE utilization and vacancies, as well as projecting agency usage.
  • KNOWLEDGE OF HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENT/BUSINESS SKILLS: Develops and manages scheduled reports that support the operations of the Department of Nursing.
  • LEADERSHIP and PROFESSIONALISM: Exhibits operational leadership through role modeling professional practice behaviors and maintaining role accountabilities at the level of the staff.
  • LEADERSHIP and PROFESSIONALISM: Fosters innovation in all operational and financial areas of Department of Nursing to improve efficiencies, productivity, and decision making.
  • LEADERSHIP and PROFESSIONALISM: Serves as a change agent, assisting others in understanding the importance, necessity, impact, and process of change.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, or Health Care Administration required

    Experience

    • 5-7 years of experience with 2 years of management and leadership experience required


    This position has a hiring range of $111,779 - $212,513
