General Summary of Position
Responsibilities include classroom and clinical teaching in the in accelerated BSN nursing program of designated university that MedStar Washington Hospital (MWHC) Center has a contractual academic-practice partnership. Serves as Master Teacher by providing faculty development and monitoring to Clinical Nursing instructors, Nurse Educators and advanced Nurse Educators. Additional responsibilities include student advisement, recruitment, and retention activities; ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum; professional development; scholarly activity; participation in program, college and university committees and other activities that benefit the Scholars program and WHC.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coursework and clinical instruction for the Second Degree BSN program as assigned by the Program Coordinator and WHC Program Director. Prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, and course materials.
  • Conduct classroom and/or clinical instruction for one or more courses in the curriculum at the higher education level. Teach pertinent course subject using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery. Lead and monitor classroom and/or clinical instruction to foster student development.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and development in the field of nursing practice, clinical instruction, and nursing education through a variety of professional activities including, but not limited to, reading the appropriate literature and attending related seminars and conferences.
  • Leads process related to the selection of scholarship recipients. Participates in recruitment and marketing activities related to the academic-practice partnership program.
  • Serves as advisor to undergraduate students.
  • Serves as faculty mentor and master teacher for Clinical Nursing Instructors, Nurse Educators, and Advanced Nurse Educators.
  • Pursues on an ongoing basis the continuance of scholarly growth. Independently develops scholarly activity makes results available for critical peer review. Examples include innovative program work, research, scholarly papers at regional or national conferences, publications, and additional graduate work. Recognized professional expertise in clinical area and/or education.
  • Fosters service by contributing professionally to WHC, Georgetown University, professional organizations and/or the community in a participatory, developmental or advisory capacity. Examples include organizational committees, development of new courses, lecture series, active membership in professional organizations, and consultations with area agencies and organizations.
  • Promotes Pathway to Excellence standards through daily practice.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Doctoral degree in Nursing, Education, or Healthcare Administration or in process with Chief Nurse Executive approval. required

    Experience

    • 5-7 years of progressively more responsible job related experience in nursing with at least 5 years of teaching experience in a BSN program required
    • Experience in a nursing advanced practice role (education, clinical or administrative) preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
    • Certification in the specialty area from a nationally recognized nursing organization. within 1 Year required
    • Nursing Professional Development within 36 months of hire. required
    • Cert Nurse Educator - CNE within 36 months of hire. required
    • BLS - Basic Life Support required
