Description

The School Collaboration Educator functions within the roles of educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher and leader. The School Collaboration Educator is responsible for establishing and maintaining academic partnership with institution that educate future health care professionals. Additional responsibilities include serving as ambassador and educator for academic partners to enhance performance, promote safety and professional development or otherwise support the mission and vision of the Department of Nursing (DON).
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care or Business Administration preferred
Experience
  • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible job related experience required
  • Experience in teaching or professional development preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
  • Specialty Certification in nursing staff professional development or in specific clinical specialty within 1 Year required
  • Educator: Demonstrates the clinical expertise, leadership, management, communication skills and knowledge of education theory and principle necessary to develop educational programs and achieve optimal educational outcomes.
  • Educator: Identifies coordinates and plans educational offerings for students and faculty of academic partners with consideration of but not limited to mandatory regulations, safety, new equipment, technologies, and clinical advancements. Evaluates the effectiveness and learning outcomes of educational activities.
  • Facilitator: Plans and conducts orientation of new clinical instructors from academic partners in conformance with departmental objectives and accreditation standards.
  • Facilitator: Facilitates clinical and or observational experiences of students that are in or considering healthcare professions such as undergraduate and graduate nursing, pre-medicine, medical technicians, surgical technicians.
  • Facilitator: Facilitates team building within department of nursing and organization. Assists DON personnel to identify, initiate and adapt to change.
  • Change Agent/Leader: In congruence with the Department of Nursing's mission, vision, goals and values, promotes an environment that embraces continuous learning and supports a framework of shared decision making.
  • Change Agent/Leader: Actively mentors, supports and recruits healthcare students that have the potential to become MWHC associates. Supports and encourages the professional development of nursing staff.
  • Change Agent/Leader: Provides expertise for competency development and competence assessment across the DON. Coaches and provides feedback to improve professional practice within WHC.
  • Change Agent/Leader: Maintains knowledge of current trends and development in the field of nursing practice, clinical instruction, and nursing education through a variety of professional activities including, but not limited to, reading the appropriate literature and attending related seminars and conferences.
  • Consultant: Participates as staff development/education expert on committees, task forces, focus groups and projects to support Department of Nursing and WHC initiatives. Collaborates within and across the organization to identify internal and external resources available for staff.
  • Researcher: Incorporates evidence into all clinical education activities.
  • Researcher: Maintains and monitors active participant in research, evidence-based practice (EBP) and/or performance improvement activities. Activities include but are not limited to supporting integration of research into practice, increasing staff knowledge and competence about research and EBP, and/or active collaboration with research studies.
