General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is actively Regional Clinical Supervisor with responsibilities to include site visits and support of Baltimore Satellite pathology labs; flexing shifts to accommodate meetings with evening and overnight associates. Participation in regulatory inspection events for all Baltimore AP labs as a support subject matter expert.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in development of department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Assists in development of department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget.
  • Assists with capital equipment expenditure proposals, payment to reference laboratories, and other expenses and submits to Director for approval.
  • Assists with ensuring provision of system-wide continuing education in Microbiology.
  • Assists with facilitation and coordination of training of medical students, residents, and fellows as requested.
  • Assists with laboratory medical directors collaboration at testing sites to assure compliance with quality, accreditation and licensure requirements.
  • Assists with procurement activities including purchasing, receiving, storage, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies. Maintains and establishes contractual services. Ensures proper procurement processes per MedStar standards are followed.
  • Communicates with physicians and hospital laboratory staff regarding Microbiology issues. Facilitates coordination between Microbiology department staff and hospital-based staff members involved in Microbiology testing.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
  • Develops, maintains, and monitors comprehensive and effective operational manuals, records, and reports.
  • Guides provision of training opportunities for medical professionals and provides for continual compliance with the educational program as it relates to clinical Microbiology.
  • Keeps abreast of advances in Microbiology testing and hospital testing needs to assist with evaluation, recommendation and implementation of new technologies, as appropriate.
  • Oversees the selection, training, orientation, and assignment of department staff. Assists in development of standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology required or
    • equivalent. required

    Experience

    • Supervisory experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory. required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Appropriate laboratory certification preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong computer skills.
