Description

Works with the IS AVP and MedStar Hospital Entities in setting the strategic direction for hospital entities and ensuring consistency with the MedStar strategic IT plan; aligns IT resources and support with strategic direction. Works with the IS AVP to communicate the needs of the hospital entities to the corporate MedStar IS organization. Actively participates in MedStar IS and hospital leadership committees and forums as requested to provide updates concerning ongoing IT projects and issues and assure all concerns are addressed. Ensures that IT systems are compliant with internal and external regulatory agency standards.
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management or Business Related area required
Experience
  • 5-7 years Related experience in a healthcare or business environment and experience in systems analysis/programming, customer service, vendor information and information systems, project management experience required
  • Experience in research or educational setting preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensure/certification in related area preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytic and problem-solving skills, ability to develop strategic and operating plans, strong management skills, ability to work in a matrix organization.
  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Assists IS VP to ensure that the hospital's needs are being accurately communicated to the corporate MedStar IS organization and that the IS strategic plans and operational requirements are being accurately communicated to hospitals.
  • Balances multiple tasks simultaneously, use independent judgment, confers with the VP Information Services as appropriate. Completes assigned projects/work within the specified time frame. Adjusts schedule or duties to assist staff or management to respond to unanticipated or unusual situations.
  • Effectively interacts with all levels of corporate and hospital staff demonstrating mutual respect, courtesy, and concern about user issues and problems, and provides timely follow-through.
  • Participates in development and maintenance as needed in the hospital's IT capital and operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget; oversees IT-related purchases.
  • Participates in MedStar IS and hospital leadership committees and forums as requested to provide updates concerning ongoing IT projects and issues and assure all concerns are addressed.
  • Provides leadership and project management oversight. Establishes project scope, timeframes, and budgetary requirements; ensures conformance to them. Ensures that newly developed/implemented systems comply with the systems functional/system design requirements and with contractual requirements as well as achieving successful user acceptances.
  • Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Works effectively with Hospitals and IS team members to reinforce team approach throughout practice on projects and initiatives.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.
