General Summary of Position
Under the supervision of Sr. Director manages media relations activities on behalf of MedStar Health for hospitals or business units. Develops media strategies, related social media tactics, and media assets (press releases, letters to the editor, opinion editorials, scripts, videos, press conferences, press briefings, etc.) to maximize positive media exposure for the organization. Builds solid working relationships with media representatives and is proactive in initiating media contacts and promoting media events. Assumes responsibility for all media-related functions in the department in the absence of the Sr. Director/Director of Media Relations. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Health's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree In journalism or communications or related field required and
- Master's degree In related field preferred
- One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience
- 3-4 years In journalism or media relations experience required and
- 1-2 years Experience in health care or research environment required and
- 1-2 years News/journalism experience preferred and
- One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must possess outstanding news judgement and understanding of healthcare and clinical issues.
- Ability to think and plan strategically relative to media activities.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Position requires a high level of problem solving due to the complexity and sensitivity of the situations encountered.
- Works independently with attention to detail given the need for accuracy in written and other content disseminated on behalf of MedStar Health.
- Work assignments are generally received in the form of broad goals for area(s) of responsibility and require considerable judgement regarding the interpretation of policies, development of procedures, and selection of appropriate courses of action.
- Able to work independently under moderate supervision.
- Strong skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other web-based applications.
This position has a hiring range of $80,995 - $152,027
