General Summary of Position


Job Summary:
Plans, executes, and finalizes projects according to strict deadlines and within budget, including acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. Defines project objectives and oversees quality control throughout the project life cycle.

Primary Duties:

  • Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget.
  • Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
  • Conducts project post-mortems and creates a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Directs and manages project development from beginning to end. Defines project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicates project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion. Acts as liaison with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Estimates the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals. Drafts and submits budget proposals and recommends subsequent budget changes where necessary. When required, negotiates with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company. Determines and assesses need for additional staff and/or consultants and makes the appropriate recruitments if necessary, during project cycle.
  • Identifies and manages project dependencies and critical path. Plans and schedules project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools. Tracks project milestones and deliverables. Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations. Determines the frequency and content of status reports form the project team, analyzes results, and troubleshoots problem areas.
  • Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifies potential crises, and devises contingency plans. Defines project success criteria and disseminates them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
  • Sets and continually manages project expectations with team members and other stakeholders. Delegates tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel. Identifies and resolves issues and conflicts within the project team. Coaches, mentors, motivates, and supervises project team members and contractors, and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of healthcare, information technology required or project management.
  • 6-7 years of work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required within 6 months of employment.
