General Summary of Position
The goal of the MedStar Sports Medicine Sports Physical Therapy Residency is to provide the physical therapy resident with an opportunity to develop advanced competence and clinical expertise in the specialty field of sports physical therapy. The sports physical therapy resident will be offered the strongest education in the development of sports physical therapy, theoretical rationale, evaluation and treatment skills, and clinical reasoning processes in order to promote the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries in an active patient population
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required or
- Master's degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required or
- Doctoral degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy required
Experience
- 1-2 years clinical experience in an outpatient rehabilitation setting with demonstrated clinical expertise preferred
- Professional competency as a physical therapist or new graduate with at least one year experience as a certified athletic trainer required
Licenses and Certifications
- PT - Physical Therapist licensure in Maryland, District of Columbia (DC), and/or Virginia as deemed necessary for your specific location(s) required
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Professional competency as a general practitioner in physical therapy; demonstrates independent use of varied evaluation and treatment approaches.
This position has a hiring range of $72,758 - $130,041
