General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for a Physical Therapist Assistant Mentor to join our team at Therapy - Olney! The ideal candidate will have professional competency as a general practitioner in speech-language pathology, demonstrated independent use of varied evaluation and treatment approaches, the ability to work in a team environment; organized, timely, detail-oriented; customer service skills for interacting with patients, including communicating with patients and family members of diverse ages and backgrounds Takes initiative in following through with all procedures and policies; effective communication; must be able to utilize computer systems.
The Physical Therapist Assistant Mentor will provide physical therapy services to patients including treatment, training, and equipment recommendations under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist according to the state requirements in which the provider is practicing. The Physical Therapist Assistant participates as requested in program planning and protocol development and assists the team in meeting established goals. As a mentor helps other clinicians grow clinically and assist in the development of staff.

Primary Duties:
Consults with other healthcare professionals as indicated. Provides patient treatment services including review of pertinent history information, safely administering modalities, and providing interventions within the limits of the treatment plan under supervision of licensed physical therapist according to the state requirements. Recognizes and documents changes in patient's condition and modifies the treatment plan under the direction of a licensed physical therapist when the patient is not progressing as intended with the treatment plan. Determines equipment needs and assists the patient in obtaining necessary assistive devices/adaptive equipment. Documents ongoing communication with the physical therapist
Completes appropriate discharge planning, follow-up care, and determination of equipment needs in collaboration with supervising physical therapist. Demonstrates initiative in contributing new ideas for patient treatment. Involves patient and family as appropriate in treatment and discharge planning through education and training.
Arranges schedule for re-evaluations and discharge summaries to be done by a physical therapist. Demonstrates effective time management and meets productivity expectations. Manage an accurate schedule. Demonstrates a professional commitment to provide frictionless patient access to care through flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and actions/behaviors that display empathy in our patient consumer driven environment.
Recognizes and documents changes/response in patient's condition and contributes to modification of the treatment plan in collaboration with, and under the supervision of, a licensed physical therapist. Takes initiative in pursuing and directing continuing education for professional growth and competency for self and organization. Serves as a clinical instructor to assigned students under supervision of licensed physical therapist as appropriate.
Leads specific projects as requested by leadership that help meet the organization's goals. Ensures integration of program recommendations. Provides mentorship to associates to maximize professional growth of mentees within department/clinic/region/network. Complies with mentorship guidelines. Provides ongoing feedback and guidance to the mentees. Assists in teaching other team members through in-services, journal clubs, etc.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant School.
Associate's degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Two years clinical experience in a rehabilitation setting with demonstrated clinical expertise preferred.
Professional competency as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Maryland, District of Columbia, and/or Virginia licensure required as deemed necessary for your specific location(s).
American Heart Association's BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification required.
