General Summary of Position

We are recruiting for an experienced Pharmacist to join MedStar Health at our distribution center in Elkridge, Maryland on a PRN basis. This position is PRN weekdays and weekends, day shift only (6AM-230PM). 

Performs medication verification duties of a pharmacist in a drug distribution setting. Works with lead technician to coordinate pharmacy activities and ensures a smooth workflow. Oversees filling of medications, in prepared dosage forms including not limited to oral solids, oral liquids, nebulizers and injectables. Responsible for verifying the accuracy of all picked and assembled medications for timely delivery to hospital pharmacies. Ensures records (electronic and paper) are processed for medications requested and dispensed. Works closely with healthcare facilities being serviced, and as a back-up to the lead technician, interacts with medication re-packager and drug wholesaler to ensure the uninterrupted provision of medications to customer pharmacies. Works closely with staff in a cooperative and team environment to ensure accurate and timely completion of daily medication filling activities. Provides clinical guidance in substitution of medication NDC based on formulary changes, contract pricing changes and drug shortages.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Ensures medication totes are secured and ready for delivery by the designated timeframe.
  • Maintains strong communication with hospital customers and entity leadership.
  • Oversees the activities of the members of the pharmacy work team; provides general instructions on routine work.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Participates in training and leading daily activities within the pharmacy; facilitates a cooperative work team environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides clinical expertise on medication selection.
  • Verifies the accuracy of drugs, doses and quantities of medications pulled and assembled for delivery to inpatient hospital pharmacies.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm D. required

    Experience

    • 1-2 years Hospital pharmacy experience preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Licensed as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.


    This position has a hiring range of $48.36 - $91.51
