General Summary of Position

The Patient Experience Intern will have the opportunity to learn about healthcare governance, management, and patient experience related to the healthcare industry. Intern will be exposed to departmental operations and/or hospital rotations and projects; and carry out projects customized to primary program of study and the needs of the mentors and the departments. Each intern will have one mentor who will oversee and direct the internship.

Accepting applications through December 31, 2024. If selected for first round interviews, please be available on Friday 1/3/2025 for a phone screen with recruitment. Further interviews will be scheduled on Tuesday 1/7/2025 and Wednesday 1/18/2025.

This is a paid for internship at $17.50/hour.

This internship will run Summer 2025 for 10-12 weeks in the June-August 2025 timeframe. It is an on-site internship and does not support housing.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively seek opportunities to improve patient experience systems and processes.
  • Attends patient experience governance meetings as appropriate. Crafts and presents information for such meetings.
  • Completes special projects as designated by direct leadership. Presents project findings and internship experience to appropriate leadership team.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary patient experience improvement teams as necessary.
  • Responds to requests for information and assistance in a timely manner.
  • Engages in the Mission and Vision of MedStar Health while enhancing interpersonal skills and advancing their professional development.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • Currently enrolled in accredited college or university and entering their senior year of their undergraduate program or enrolled in a graduate degree program.

    Experience

    • Previous experience within the healthcare industry preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with team, as well as an independent contributor.
    • Initiative and follow-up skills, high attention to details, adherence to deadlines and strong problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to present and communicate complex information to team and to internal clientele.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.


    This position has a hiring range of $17.5 - $28.73
