General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Newborn Hearing Screen Technician to join our team! 

As a Newborn Hearing Screen Technician, you will provide newborn hearing screening under the supervision of a licensed Audiologist. Performs clerical/administrative and office support functions as directed.

Primary Duties: 

  • Conducts newborn hearing screening according to established department protocols using both otoacoustic emissions and automated auditory brainstem response testing equipment under the supervision of a licensed Audiologist.  

  • Follows established competencies on infant handling and infection prevention protocols Documents results from testing equipment in Electronic Medical Record and forwards to Audiologist for interpretation and recommendations.  

  • Answers phones, takes messages, and routes calls to appropriate personnel. Registers and schedules patients in department computer systems. Authorizes insurance when requested. Processes payments. Collects necessary test results for clinicians prior to appointment as requested.  

  • Greets patients, visitors, and other staff to the office. Determines their need(s) and assists/directs accordingly. Provides hearing aid repairs when possible. Prepares and processes other repairs to send to manufacturer. Confers with Audiologist regularly.  

  • Maintains supply inventory, files, records, statistics and manages data as assigned. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as assigned 

 

Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • 6 to 12 months of related experience preferred.
