MedStar Health is looking for an Imaging Services Assistant to join our team!
As an Imaging Services Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the department's daily operations and performing required functions necessary for the efficient operations of the department by greeting, assisting, and directing visitors, physicians, patients, and other hospital clients. Performs basic office procedures such as answering telephone calls and takes messages, assists with patient schedule distribution, and interacts with patient's physicians and third-party vendors in a pleasant and courteous manner. Imaging Services Assistants utilize the Radiology and Hospital computer information systems, fax, and copier machines to perform job functions; patient information input, verification of patient demographics, verification of result status and other procedural data. Responsible for filing, purging and documenting image media movement, both within and outside of the department.

Primary Duties:
- Perform basic office procedures like answering the telephone and interacting with physicians, patients and third parties in a pleasant, courteous, and professional manner. Work cooperatively and professionally with coworkers, management, technologists, and other departments in the hospital.
- Performs file room duties which include wet reading (stat) functions, distributes daily schedules. Responsible for retrieval of film, hardcopy studies and paperwork from areas and sources within the department, external imaging centers and off-site locations.
- Demonstrates proficiency in copying/digitizing films, burning CDs, obtaining proper authorization for release of images prior to mailing/distribution of films/CDs for all requests from physicians, patients and all third parties. Using HIPPA guidelines will confirm and document authorization prior to release of any PHI (Protected Health Information).
- Properly identifies patients with two patient identifiers. (Name & DOB) Maintains HIPPA compliance. Utilizes the Radiology Information System to perform basic job functions such as information input, verification of patient demographics information, and retrieval of patient information and charging data. Responsible for maintenance and care of departmental facilities in compliance with all hospital infection control policies. Maintains the workplace in a clean, safe, and orderly manner. Shares responsibility for keeping inventory and reporting low quantities of mailers, CDs, film jackets, etc.
- Manages incoming/outgoing Imaging studies and reports through the following methods: mail, fax, patient transfer, image transfer or through oral report of Radiologist imaging study interpretation to physicians or medical units. Scan general information into PACS and RAD viewer. Reports problems to PACS Administrator and follows through with corrective actions.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a hospital/medical setting preferred.
- BLS Certification.
