Description

Supports the MedStar Enterprise Radiology Solution (ERS) and the MedStar Enterprise Image Viewer (EIV) with medium supervision. Operates at the intersection of IT and clinical care and reports to the Manager, Imaging Informatics Administrators. Responsible for supporting the ongoing operations of the multiple vendor systems comprising the ERS and EIV. Responsibilities of this position span across MedStar to include all Hospital and Ambulatory based settings in support of the professional MMG-R group.
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Radiography, Information Technology or Information Systems in a health care setting, or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience in an imaging department required and
  • Associate's degree or Certificate in Radiology Sciences is desirable but not required
Experience
  • 3-4 years Prior experience as PACS administrator, RIS administrator, or DICOM and/or HL7 experience. Experience with software and hardware vendors on it service delivery engagements required and
  • Prior clinical background, i.e. as a registered radiologic technologist, is highly desired. preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • ARRT Registered Radiologic Technologist or certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) or a PARCA certification desired but not required preferred or
  • CIIP - Certified Imaging Informatics Professional Registered Radiologic Technologist or certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) or a PARCA certification desired but not required preferred or
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist or certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) or a PARCA certification desired but not required preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of clinical information systems.
  • Some of the preferred skills would include: HL7, RIS/HIS, VNA, DICOM, and related standards.
  • Familiarity with hanging protocols and data integrity practices.
  • Working knowledge of PACS workstations, monitors and video cards required.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills required.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a diverse group of people.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Assists in development and implementation of system testing plans and procedures.
  • Interacts and communicates with physicians, support staff, and other health care professionals to facilitate imaging department and operations. Assists with training radiologists and all ERS system users. Acts as a resource person to all system users.
  • Interfaces with, and serves as MedStar resource for support and operations for all components of the ERS and EIV systems, including multiple hardware and software vendors, MedStar archives, MedStar network and IS infrastructure; and outside consultants.
  • Monitors use and day-to-day operations of the ERS system that includes image workflow, image distribution and image archiving. Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves Imaging Informatics-related process issues.
  • Participates in and supports ERS and EIV implementation activities across the MedStar system as needed. Responsible for the 24x7 day-to-day operations of the ERS and EIV systems. Participates in an on-call rotation for evenings, nights, and weekends. Travels to all MedStar facilities on an as-needed basis.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees, and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Performs daily QC tasks such as patient study merges, image transmission errors, and supports data integrity practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Works closely with MMGR and management to solve specific operational problems, system upgrades, and future imaging expansions.
