MedStar Health is looking for a PRN Emergency Services Support Assistant to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital!  

The Emergency Services Support Assistant performs clinical, clerical, and administrative support functions for the Emergency Department. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Primary Duties: 

  • Provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Nursing or Medical staff, performing routine sterile and nonsterile procedures and splinting according to Unit/Hospital policy. Participates in patient and family teaching as directed including instructions related to disposition.  

  • Recognizes and reports significant changes in patient's condition to the nursing and medical staff and performs necessary initial interventions, as necessary. Manages the dissemination of information to referring physicians and ensures that copies of the patient's medical record are forwarded to appropriate follow-up care providers and medical records.  

  • Assists with patient admissions to the Hospital from the Emergency Department. Answers phones and routes calls to appropriate personnel or departments, exemplifying Guest, and staff relations in all activities.  

  • Performs Quality Improvement activities to ensure accuracy of duties performed by self and co-workers. Precepts new associates as assigned to ensure all job duties have been performed on a shift-by-shift basis. Participates in department Quality Improvement and Research initiatives as directed.  

  • Exemplifies our SPIRIT values in all activities. Maintains direct observation of patient when functioning as an Observation Attendant. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • In addition, one of the following three requirements must be met:  

  • Successful completion of an EMT-B program;  

  • one year experience as a nursing assistant, office medical assistant;  

  • emergency department assistant in a medical setting; 

  • BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) student who has completed the sophomore year and has at least one semester of clinical experience. 

  • Basic Life Support. 

  • One year's experience in a hospital emergency department preferred.
