General Summary of Position
Educates, supports, and advocates for patients' nutritional needs by providing one-on-one nutrition counseling to outpatient clients. Promotes and supports self-management to achieve individualized behavioral and treatment goals that reduce risks and optimize health outcomes.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive nutrition assessments using the Nutritional Care Process (NCP), including nutrition focused physical examinations.
  • Develops and implements Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to address the nutrition diagnosis, evaluates and monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of MNT interventions. Modifies the plan as needed to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Documents MNT in the medical record using the Assessment, Diagnosis, Intervention, Monitoring, Evaluation (ADIME) format.
  • Calculates nutrition requirements and necessary diet restrictions or food and drug interactions, tailoring the diet prescription to each individual patient.
  • Identifies patients in need of nutritional support and recommends the appropriate mode of support and communicates appropriately with the health care team.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Collaborates with clinicians and Medical Director in developing patient-centered plans. Confers with Physician(s) and/or Nurse Practitioner(s) concerning assigned patients.
  • Serves as an educational resource to the practice. Provides technical and educational assistance as needed.
  • Maintains required records, reports, and statistics.
  • Completes timely documentation in the patient's medical record and timely coding of services to optimize patient safety and assure compliant billing practices are followed.
  • May provide distance visits by video conferencing, telephone, text, and email, as appropriate by office protocols
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate.
  • Participates in meetings, serves on committees, and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach and marketing efforts as appropriate per office protocols.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree Registered Dietician Nutritionist or Registered Dietician required
    • Master's degree Registered Dietician Nutritionist or Registered Dietician preferred

    Experience

    • 1-2 years Clinical outpatient or inpatient settings required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • REG DIET - Dietitian - Registered Valid license in Maryland as a Dietician (must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration) Upon Hire required
    • RD - Registered Dietician RDN/RD credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Upon Hire required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of various accrediting and regulatory requirements.
    • Knowledge of virtual technology to provide nutrition care.
    • Ability to deliver patient care using the NCP (e.g., assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation).
    • Ability to apply evidence-based nutrition practices to improve patient outcomes.
    • Ability to develop patient-centered goals.
    • Ability to collect data for performance improvement studies.
    • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders.


    This position has a hiring range of $60,632 - $107,494
