General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Clinical Psychologist to join our team! 

As a Clinical Psychologist, you will provide clinical psychological services in designated department(s). Oversees routine operational tasks and the implementation of program development tasks. Provides leadership and special expertise in one or more sub fields of clinical and medical psychology. Provides full range of necessary psychodiagnostics and psychotherapeutic services to inpatients and outpatients of designated department(s).

Primary Duties: 

  • Coordinates clinical service delivery provided to designated department(s). Provides information to the director or designee about clinical activities and program demands to ensure adequate staffing to meet patients' needs and to maintain quality of services being provided. Conducts and documents initial psychological assessment of patients Conducts psychological evaluations as needed, including Bariatric Surgery pre-operative evaluations and court ordered evaluations.  

  • Establishes psychological service delivery plan subject to timely reassessment and revision. Performs detailed and specific psychodiagnostics assessment, including psychological testing and psychological evaluations. Provides psychotherapy to include counseling, group and family therapy, sexual counseling, cognitive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-based therapy, and behavior therapy.  

  • Communicates with treatment teams to maintain continuity of psychological and other care and to reduce unnecessary duplication of services. Participates in discharge planning to provide appropriate referral and liaison for patients' and families' psychological needs. Provides consultations on inpatient units within scope of practice. May provide clinical supervision of other clinicians or clinicians in training.  

  • Maintains detailed documentation of services provided to permit administrative and peer review; audit of services against charges for services and meet documentation requirements of the designated department(s) and the District of Columbia. Develops behavioral assessment, treatment, and remediation programs for patients in designated department(s) and implements such programs in collaboration with other disciplines. Serves as the psychological consultant to treatment teams.  

  • Engages in teaching/training as required. Maintains and enhances clinical skills, via supervision, in-service training, appropriate workshops, courses, and conferences. Completes documentation and charge capture per hospital regulations. Participates in scholarly activity; engages in translational/clinical research. Adheres to the standards for ethical and professional practice of the American Psychological Association and the District of Columbia. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Doctoral degree Ph.D. in psychology (clinical psychology) including an APA-approved clinical psychology internship. 

  • Postdoctoral training in medical psychology preferred. 

  • 3-4 years progressively more responsible related experience, including project management, in an acute care setting and teaching environment. 

  • Licensed Psychologist A District of Columbia license as a psychologist or eligible for reciprocity.
