General Summary of Position
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Ambulatory Real Estate and Facilities provides strategic leadership for MedStar Health's ambulatory facility development, capital planning, lease and property management for a 3.1 million square foot portfolio across 180 locations. The AVP collaborates closely with senior leadership in MedStar Ambulatory Services, the MedStar Medical Group, MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, MedStar Radiology Network, and corporate functions to align real estate initiatives with organizational goals, ensuring cost-effective facility development, operational efficiency, and exceptional patient experiences.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facility Development & Capital Planning - Lead planning, development, tenant improvements, construction, and activation of new ambulatory care facilities, ensuring alignment with MedStar's long-range strategic and capital plans.
  • Enforce corporate-wide construction and design standards for outpatient facilities, integrating best practices in safety, infection control, and patient-centered design.
  • Partner with corporate clinical and administrative operations teams, finance, legal, security, environmental services, information services, real estate, and construction teams to optimize capital investments.
  • Property & Lease Management - Oversee the leasing, property management, and maintenance of MedStar's extensive ambulatory portfolio, including MedStar Ambulatory Services, MedStar Medical Group, MedStar Radiology Network, National Rehabilitation Network, corporate offices, and miscellaneous outpatient facilities.
  • Ensure effective lease negotiations, cost management, and risk mitigation, optimizing MedStar's real estate portfolio for long-term value.
  • Lead the property management team to ensure operational needs and patient experience are met at all facilities.
  • Operational Services & Compliance - Continuously assess facility operations, compliance, and efficiency to improve service delivery.
  • Oversee facility maintenance, security, environmental services, and ancillary services for all ambulatory sites.
  • Work closely with the Environmental Services to align cleanliness and infection control with systemwide goals.
  • Collaborate with the Security to establish and enforce security standards for outpatient facilities, ensuring staff and patient safety.
  • Stakeholder & Industry Engagement
  • Build and maintain relationships with physicians, hospital leadership, operations teams, and industry partners to support the development of ambulatory care centers (ACCs).
  • Serve as the primary liaison between ambulatory user groups, MedStar Real Estate, Construction, Finance, and Legal teams, ensuring aligned decision-making and resource prioritization.
  • Maintain strong relationships with MedStar vendor partners, real estate and construction industry to support growth and operational success.
  • Financial & Performance Management - Continuously identify opportunities to optimize facility performance, reduce operational costs, and enhance the patient and provider experience
  • Develop and monitor the division's annual and long-term capital budgets and facility plans to achieve cost efficiency and strategic growth.
  • Drive results in customer satisfaction, financial targets, and project delivery, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective real estate solutions.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. required or
    • Master's degree MBA, MHA, or MS in Real Estate or Finance preferred

    Experience

    • 10+ years operational management in healthcare facilities development setting required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
    • Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) preferred


    This position has a hiring range of $205,600 - $278,200
