General Summary of Position

Job Summary: 
 

Installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilating, and refrigeration equipment and air conditioning systems throughout the Washington Hospital Center, under general supervision from a Facilities Supervisor/Designee.

 
Primary Duties: 

 

  1. Installs, tests, and maintains air conditioning and refrigeration equipment/systems throughout the Washington Hospital Center.
  1. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and casualty prevention work orders troubleshooting and diagnosing problems involving air conditioning and refrigeration equipment/systems (e.g., loss of refrigerant, low pressure, high temperatures). Develops solutions/corrections recommending improvements and modifications as appropriate.
  1.  Develops estimates for a wide variety of installations and repairs of electrical/electronic equipment in accordance with requirements. Determines the means and methods to be used, estimates time, material(s), and human resources needed, and may be required to secure the appropriate tools/equipment and materials.
  1. Inspects and critically evaluates the conditions of all system(s) and components, work in progress, and provides preventive maintenance checks to ensure proper standards are met.
  1. Guides lower classified personnel in the installation and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and/or systems.
  1. Tests various types of equipment with specialized hand and power tools. Maintains accurate records/logs as required.
  1. Learns and remains current with the latest applicable federal and local governing codes, standards, and regulations regarding fire, safety, plumbing, electrical and plant operations, including, but not limited to: OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, ASHRAE, ANSI, DCRA, D.C. Fire & Safety Codes, and the Hospital's fire and safety practices.

 

 

Qualifications:

  •  High School Diploma or GED required.

  •  Trade/vocational school graduate; or equivalent with courses such as chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Required.

  •  3-4 years as a Junior AC&R Mechanic or equivalent demonstrating the ability to perform this position required.

  •  Experience with computer operated or microprocessor based controlled systems preferred.

  •  Chlorofluorocarbon Certificate - CFCC (Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Universal Technician Certification) required.
