General Summary of Position
We have an opportunity available for an experienced Outpatient / Community Pharmacist to join our MedStar Pharmacy team in the DC area on a PRN basis, to cover available weekday shifts from 11am - 7:30pm and Saturdays from 8am - 4pm.   DC Pharmacist license required, dual-licensed candidates in both DC and MD are preferred.

 

Evaluates drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose therapeutic efficacy allergy drug interaction and contraindications; processes prescriptions through insurance company and handles DUR rejects pre-authorizations etc.; performs final check on all prescriptions ensuring accurate input labeling and dispensing; and provides counseling and drug information to patients and physicians. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Acts as the pharmacist in charge in the absence of the manager: directing workflow patterns ensuring daily responsibilities are carried out by assigned staff resolving issues requiring management intervention and performing routine oversight of pharmacy operations.
  • Performs final check on all completed prescriptions verifying the accuracy of input labeling and dispensing; makes corrections as necessary; maintains refill and narcotic logs and prescription files.
  • Processes prescriptions in the dispensing system; evaluates prescriptions for appropriateness of dose therapeutic efficacy allergy drug interactions and contraindications; handles DURs rejects preauthorizations etc.; communicates with third party payors to troubleshoot issues relating to coverage reimbursement etc.
  • Provides clinical information and guidance to physicians and allied health professionals as appropriate to provide safe prompt and accurate dispensing of all prescriptions; calls physicians and follows up on refill requests; notifies physicians of Rx's requiring pre-authorizations and discusses alternatives as appropriate.
  • Provides patient counseling as appropriate on a patient-by-patient basis.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • Licensed as a pharmacist in the District of Columbia (DC) required

Experience

  • 1-2 years Pharmacy experience preferably in retail required

Licenses and Certifications

  • PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist-  DC Pharmacist license including Immunization/Vaccination Certification and registration with the board of pharmacy in that district required 
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $100,588.00 - USD $190,340.00 /Yr.
