General Summary of Position
Oversees and coordinates Laboratory Information System activities and projects as assigned. Acts as a liaison to corporate Laboratory Information Systems department following established standards and practices. Directs the development of regulatory process use testing and troubleshooting documentation. Coaches customers on application use and direction.
This is a hybrid role, ability and willingness to travel to all nine MedStar Health Hospital locations is required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Establishes develops and maintains effective relationships working agreements and quality partnerships within the shared decision-making model and within the model of care to ensure quality patient care across the continuum and to secure resources to support evidence-based laboratory medicine.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of Laboratory Informatics through a variety of professional activities including but not limited to reading the appropriate literature and attending related seminars and conferences. Pursues continuous scholarly growth by engaging in scholarly activity such as innovative program work research papers presentations at regional or national conferences publications and additional graduate work.
- Responsible for working as the Laboratory liaison and project manager for information system initiatives. Recommends and manages the interventions to increase acceptance and adoption of clinical applications to encourage the use of information technology in the provision of laboratory medicine. Evaluates and ensures compliance and consistency of use of business and clinical applications.
- Collaborates with IS on application and technical issues upgrade and enhancements. Coordinates the validation of application improvements enhancements updates and modifications via the development of testing scenarios into test plans.
- Coordinates and communicates downtime processes during any relevant system downtime including laboratory and donor systems.
- Documents current business processes to aid in the process redesign. Coordinate the development of department policies and procedures required to implement re-engineered business processes.
- Participates as requested in system oversight and hospital-based committees as appropriate. Serves as a site/department resource on Project Teams. Actively participates in and/or manages meetings committees and/or multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams in support of Laboratory activities.
- Assesses and analyzes data to identify practice environment and workflow issues and develops appropriate programs and change processes to improve clinical laboratory practice. Develops and implements educational strategies to promote computer literacy within the laboratory. Develops facilitates and coordinates training plans to implement new technology within the laboratories and associated clinical areas.
- Prioritizes and coordinates service requests at the site level. Is responsible for the communication of the status of those requests to laboratory management.
- Provides advanced support to customers within and beyond the corporate organization in the implementation and operational use of software applications. Actively coordinates/facilitates successful resolution to user issues problems and requests. Conversant regarding service line trends issues and initiatives. Serves as liaison between application and technical IS groups and user community.
- Effectively communicates project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion. Acts as liaison with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
- Monitor and control projects as determined by the MedStar Health Project Management Office. Plans and schedules project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools. Tracks project milestones and deliverables. Develops and delivers progress reports requirements documentation and presentations.
- Proactively manages changes in project scope identifies potential crises and devises contingency plans. Defines project success criteria and disseminates them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in accredited Medical Laboratory Science program required or seven years equivalent clinical/technical experience in an acute care setting, is required.
Experience
- Progressively more responsible clinical/technical experience; demonstrated ability to be self-directed with excellent organizational analytical writing and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of laboratory applications and hardware, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and customer support.
- Minimum one year in a laboratory management position or project management position; experience with laboratory applications.
Licenses and Certifications
- ASCP - Medical Technologist Medical Technology ASCP preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership skills analytical problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Project management experience preferred.
- Proven ability to function on a highly functional work team.
- Demonstrated skills in troubleshooting customer service training documentation development and project management.
- Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
- Microsoft Office skills required.
- Ad-hoc report writing experience preferred.
This position has a hiring range of
USD $89,065.00 - USD $162,801.00 /Yr.
