Inpatient & Outpatient General Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA) / Nurse Practitioner (NP) with First Assist Certification

Location: Brandywine, MD & Woodbridge, VA (Lake Ridge)

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Position Overview

MedStar Health is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) with First Assist certification to support a general orthopedic practice working closely with Dr. Hampton, a Sports Medicine–trained orthopedic surgeon who treats a wide range of orthopedic conditions. This role is primarily clinic-based with limited operating room exposure and occasional inpatient rounding.

The provider will be based primarily out of the Brandywine office, with approximately one day per week supporting the Lake Ridge (Woodbridge, VA) office. Candidates should be comfortable traveling between locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct new and return patient visits in an outpatient orthopedic clinic setting
• Manage post-operative follow-up appointments
• Support general orthopedic and sports medicine patients across a broad range of conditions
• Provide perioperative support for select larger surgical cases
• Participate in limited OR coverage (approximately 1–2 days per week at most)
• Occasionally round on inpatients at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary orthopedic team, including physicians, PAs, and NPs

Schedule & Work Environment

• Monday–Friday only
• No weekends, no holidays, no call
• OR days may start earlier than standard clinic hours
• Majority of time spent in outpatient clinic
• Works alongside a team of ~10 orthopedic APPs and multiple orthopedic surgeons

Qualifications

• Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) with First Assist certification required
• New graduates can apply; training and mentorship available
• Orthopedic or surgical experience preferred but not required
• Ability to obtain and maintain applicable licensure and credentialing
