Responsibilities

SDC - Group Dental Underwriter I

Compiles data and analyzes risk in group dental benefit proposals to produce rates for new and renewing business that are compliant and in support of corporate financial and membership goals.

·    Develops and determines fully insured and alternate funded pricing arrangements using rating model with actuarial and statistical information. Recognizes unusual and non-standard circumstances which need special accommodation.

·    Discusses the proposed plan and funding designs with manager. Gathers information, develops options and consults with sales/service to help determine how to best meet the client's objectives.

·    Develops calculation and processing of benefit and funding change alternatives for existing groups.

·    Provides case level support to the underwriting team as needed.

·    Performs other duties as assigned

 

 

SDC - Group Dental Underwriter II

Compiles data and analyzes moderately complex risk in group dental benefit proposals to produce rates for new and renewing business that are compliant and in support of corporate financial and membership goals. Exercises sound financial/technical judgment to make exceptions to standard underwriting policies, and shares judgments with superiors.

·    Develops, negotiates, and determines fully insured and alternate funded pricing arrangements using rating model with actuarial and statistical information. Recognizes unusual and non-standard circumstances which need special accommodation.

·    Calculates and processes benefit and funding alternatives for existing groups. Consults with sales/service to strategize and to determine how to best meet the client's objectives.

·    Provides ongoing technical and strategic support to the sales team to enable them to effectively present and sell proposed Underwriting Action (rates, benefits).

·    Assists with management of Request for Proposal, renewal and/or new business processes, rating, and tracking.

·    Assists in supporting training initiatives (i.e., new hires) that enhance departmental effectiveness. Performs testing of tools and systems.

·    Performs other duties as assigned.

SDC – Sr. Group Dental Underwriter

Functions independently to compile data and analyze risk in group dental benefit proposals to produce rates for new and renewing business that are compliant and in support of corporate financial and membership goals. Exercises sound financial/technical judgment for recommending exceptions to standard underwriting policies, to promote retention and acquisition of new business, and effectively articulates rationale when seeking approval from superiors.   

·    Develops, negotiates, and determines fully insured and alternate funded pricing arrangements using rating model with actuarial and statistical information. Articulates results and recommendations to analysts, leadership and sales/service, brokers & consultants, and clients. Performs final underwriting.

·    Proposes meaningful benefit and funding alternatives for existing clients in collaboration with sales to provide the best plan designs to meet the Client's and the Company's objectives.

·    Contributes to management of Request for Proposal, renewal and/or new business processes, rating and tracking.

·    Assists more junior level staff with technical development, and in supporting and facilitating underwriting activities that enhance departmental effectiveness. Leads staff in absence of management.

·    Maintains proposal and rate information in ACT database. Prepares reporting for management, brokers and clients as requested.

·    Provides ongoing technical and strategic support to the sales team to enable them to effectively present and sell proposed Underwriting Action (rates, benefits). Engages with Brokers/Consultants to share underwriting perspective, explain rate action and build external relationships.

·    Performs other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Qualifications

SDC - Group Dental Underwriter I

Education and Experience:

·  Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Math, or related field.

·  0-1 year of experience as a Specialty Products Underwriter or equivalent experience in health insurance underwriting.

 

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

·  Knowledge and underwriting expertise relative to risk assessment and pricing of Group Insurance products.

·  Intermediate underwriting systems and Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and workflow applications such as OnBase and Stepwise. 

 

SDC - Group Dental Underwriter II

Education and Experience:

·   Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Math, or related field.

·   3 years of experience as a Specialty Products Underwriter or equivalent experience in health insurance underwriting.

·   Experience collaborating with internal sales and external broker distribution partners.

 

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

·     In depth knowledge and underwriting expertise relative to risk assessment and pricing of Group Insurance products.

·     Intermediate underwriting systems and Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and workflow applications such as OnBase and Stepwise.

·    5 years' experience as a Specialty Products Underwriter or equivalent experience in health insurance underwriting.

·    Experience collaborating with internal sales and external broker distribution partners.

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

·    In depth knowledge and underwriting expertise relative to risk assessment and pricing of Group Insurance products.

·    Intermediate to advanced underwriting systems and Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and workflow applications such as OnBase and Stepwise.

·    Ability to orient, train and assist more junior level staff.
