Description

Note, requires a minimum of (3) days per week in-office in Brooklyn, Ohio. Ohio residents strongly preferred.

Directs the development and oversight of accounting policies, procedures, reporting and systems for ancillary lines of business, and administrative expense items.

Responsibilities

·         Responsible for financial reporting and business support for Medical Mutual's ancillary lines of business.

·         Oversees month end close activities for general and administrative expenses including financial reporting to board and regulatory agencies.

·         Develops and implements key accounting policies and procedures and provides collaborative support of new business initiatives such as Mergers and Acquisitions.

·         Directs and manages complex business, financial analysis, and cost accounting projects.

·         Maintains current knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable accounting guidance. Drafts and maintains technical accounting policy and position memos, regularly communicates with external auditors, and consults other constituents as necessary to maintain such knowledge.

·         Provides leadership and guidance to managers and other staff. Develops long and short-term departmental goals, ensuring that these goals are consistent with the Company's goals and objectives.

·         Analyzes and interprets regulations for the business impact on the Company. Steers Finance and cross-functionally to timely and accurately implement regulatory and compliance changes.

·         Directs the production and analysis of the administrative expense and Quality Initiative expense components of statutory Medical Loss Ratio reporting for each insurance entity as required under Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act and by the National Association Insurance Commissions.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Qualifications

Education and Experience

·         Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.

·         Master of Business Administration (MBA) preferred.

·         10 years progressive experience in corporate accounting, 5 years of which are in a managerial capacity.

·         Significant experience in the financial services industry, preferably health insurance.

Professional Certification

·         Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) required.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

·         Extensive knowledge of State and Federal financial and insurance regulations.

·         Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial systems and the ability to apply advanced concepts and strategies at a corporate level.
