Title and Summary

Systems Platform Engineer I Overview - The Storage Services team are responsible for all Storage, SAN and Backup deployments within Vocalink Mastercard's Production, Test, Core and Development environments, as well as ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting and administration. The Storage Services Team resource all phases of delivery, from assisting technical Architecture, through build, run and ongoing support. The role of ‘Storage Platform Engineer I” requires the individual to work on delivery, implementation and support of all environments. Providing technical expertise to the Vocalink Scrum teams, Business owners and service delivery managers. Taking direction from the Storage Team Manager and Architect teams, the candidate must be able to work independently and be pro-active with their workload making priority decisions within a high pressure environment.

Role - The Systems Platform Engineer I position will require close interaction with all technical areas such as Architecture and design, Networks, Unix Platform Administration, Database Systems Administration, Wintel, Middleware Support Infrastructure, Development Teams, Acceptance Testing and Service/Operations Management.
Primarily perform Storage & Backup troubleshooting (and performance tuning) coordinated with other areas/parties if required as part of BAU.
Implement Storage & Backup Hardware and 3rd Party Software installs and upgrades.
Provide post implementation support of delivered products (In Office / Out of Office).
Document and manage changes to existing hardware/software.
Contribute to the development and continuous review of appropriate practices, standards, and guidelines.
To stay abreast of relevant developments in technology, processes, and markets.
Contribute towards strategy guidance for the Storage and Backup discipline
Understand stakeholder concerns to develop, define and document solutions which address those concerns.
Perform on-call duties as per the required “1 week in x” Rota along with public holidays.
Work with security and auditors to ensure business compliance.
To communicate solutions to Stakeholders ensuring that their concerns are fully addressed, especially with regards to security, performance, and availability.
To undertake and backfill resource gaps for project work
To deliver to demanding timescales.
To provide technical support to all other Infrastructure and Network teams.
To participate in team development activities.
Willingness to travel as and when required to remote sites providing support and maintenance, occasionally occurring overnight stays or extended working hours.

All about you/Experience - Core competencies are a good understanding of File and Block level storage, preferable Dell, Pure and HP, experience of working in a I.T based environment, preferably a Storage based administration role. SAN Switch configurations and administration along with connectivity principles and have worked hands on” with physical servers. Backup technology experience, preferably Veritas/Cohesity Netbackup and basic Unix skills. Must be a team player and work well with other teams embracing other cultures and experiences.
UK Driving license is required and to be vetted for "SC" security clearance.
