Role Overview:
As a Specialist in Communications at Mastercard, you will play a critical role in advancing our storytelling with key external and internal audiences. This role will primarily focus on keeping a pulse on the quick-changing cybersecurity landscape and contributing to our broader storytelling efforts, working closely with internal teams to develop and execute media strategies, secure positive media coverage, and craft compelling stories that align with Mastercard's vision, mission, and corporate goals.
Key Responsibilities
• Media Relations:
Maintain a constant pulse on the media landscape to identify areas where Mastercard can lead or fit into the conversation. Build and nurture relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers across business, technology, and lifestyle media to secure coverage and establish Mastercard as a thought leader. Develop and manage press lists, briefing books, recaps, messaging documents, and other assets to support team-wide announcements and media relations at the global level.
• Storytelling & Content Creation:
Contribute to engaging and insightful stories, newsroom content, and thought leadership that align with Mastercard's business objectives, market trends, and stakeholder interests.
• Collaboration Across Teams:
Partner with internal stakeholders (executives, marketing, product teams, and business and regional PR teams) to align messaging and ensure consistency across all media communications.
Key Skills & Qualifications
• Experience:
2-3+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, or corporate communications, with a proven track record of supporting successful media relationships and strategies. Agency experience preferred.
• Storytelling:
Strong storytelling abilities, with experience in connecting the dots to deliver high-quality, impactful content for diverse audiences across different platforms (press releases, articles, blogs, social media, etc.).
• Media Relationships:
Skilled in building new relationships with key journalists, bloggers, and influencers in the media landscape, particularly within finance, tech, cybersecurity, and business sectors. Established relationships a plus.
• Strategic Thinking:
Ability to think strategically and critically to connect the dots to broader organizational goals and priorities. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage sensitive issues and respond quickly to fast-changing situations.
• Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively in simple language with limited jargon.
• Team Player:
Collaborative and team-oriented with the ability to work cross-functionally with various teams and stakeholders, and to prioritize what matters in service of moving quickly without diminishing quality of work. Ability to plan and think proactively as well as manage processes and stakeholders.
• Education:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related field.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
• An interest in or knowledge of cybersecurity solutions, fraud, scams, or the cybersecurity landscape.

Pay Ranges
New York City, New York: $78,000 - $125,000 USDApply on company website
