Title and Summary

Senior Principal Software Engineer Overview:
Mastercard's Business & Market Insights (B&MI) is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced software solutions for Operational Intelligence program group within B&MI. This role is pivotal in shaping the architecture of platforms that deliver real-time intelligence, predictive analytics, and data-driven insights to its customers. As a key technology leader, this role will also focus on engineering best practices, next gen innovation, vendor management, and external partnerships, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the program group.

Role:
Technical Leadership
• Act as a technical thought leader across the B&MI organization, influencing architectural decisions and long-term technology strategy.
• Facilitate cross-team collaboration by aligning engineering, product, data science, and infrastructure teams around shared goals and technical direction.
• Lead technical design reviews, architecture forums, and innovation workshops to drive consensus and clarity and build a culture of innovation within the team
• Champion a culture of engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.
• Drive decision-making processes that balance technical rigor, business impact, and delivery timelines.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and guide strategic adoption to enhance platform capabilities.
• Define and enforce architectural standards, engineering best practices, and governance models across the Operational Insights portfolio.
• Mentor and develop engineering talent, promoting growth and technical maturity.

Technology Ownership
• Architect and develop scalable and highly performant applications using wide range of programming languages, tools and technologies
• Design and implement RESTful APIs and web services with best-in-class API tooling and design practices.
• Lead UI/UX development using frameworks like Angular, React and others, ensuring responsive and intuitive user experiences.
• Drive cloud-native development and DevOps automation using Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Docker, Jenkins, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Integrate AI/ML models into operational platforms using frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or MLlib. Collaborate with data scientists to translate models into scalable engineering solutions.
• Build and optimize data streaming pipelines using technologies such as Kafka, Flink, or Spark Streaming.
• Develop big data solutions leveraging Hadoop, Spark, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, and other distributed systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration across systems and data sources.

All About You:
• Proven experience as a Senior Principal Engineer or equivalent in enterprise data architecture, data engineering, or data platform strategy.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and strategic influence, driving innovation, prioritization, and delivery excellence.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, etc. and cloud-based platforms like Databricks and Snowflake.
• Hands-on experience building global web applications with full-stack expertise in diverse technologies, including cloud and AI/ML.
• Expert-level technical proficiency on the following tools and technologies:
o Languages & Frameworks: Java, Spring (Boot, Data, Batch, REST, Cloud, AOP), Hibernate, C#, .Net, Python, SQL
o UI/UX: Angular, React and other JavaScript frameworks
o Cloud & DevOps: AWS, Azure, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Docker, Jenkins, CI/CD
o Databases: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, ElasticSearch
o Streaming & Big Data: Kafka, Flink, Spark, Hadoop
o AI/ML: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, MLlib, MLflow
o Tools: Eclipse/IntelliJ, Sonar, GIT, Maven, SQL Developer, Gatling
• Experience working in Agile environments, leveraging modern delivery practices like Scrum, SAFe, or product-centric models.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with quick adaptation to new technologies, methodologies, and systems.
• Strong executive presence with the ability to translate complex architecture concepts into business language.
• Experience mentoring and leading global, cross-functional teams of high-performing technical talent.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field required.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay Ranges

O'Fallon, Missouri: $200,000 - $320,000 USD
