Senior Managing Counsel - Head of Legal, MPS About Mastercard Payment Services (MPS)Mastercard Payment Services (MPS), a group of wholly owned subsidiaries of Mastercard, operate as an account-to-account business, specializing in Bill Pay services in Denmark and Norway, along with Real-Time Payment solutions across Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Slovenia, and Hungary. MPS operates in a highly regulated environment and is subject to oversight by financial supervisory authorities, central banks, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced legal leader to serve as VP, Senior Managing Counsel – Head of Legal for MPS. Based in Copenhagen or Oslo, this role is a key member of the MPS Leadership Team.
The role directly supports the MPS CEO and Executive Leadership Team and leads a local legal team of 10 professionals across Denmark and Norway, covering areas such as commercial, regulatory, and corporate law.
Role
Strategic Legal Counsel: Advise the MPS Board, CEO, and Executive Leadership Team on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters.
Legal Function Leadership: Coordinate across legal disciplines (commercial, regulatory, privacy, etc.) to ensure cohesive legal support.
Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing legal team.
Global Legal Integration: Leverage Mastercard's global legal resources to support MPS's strategic and operational needs.
Resource Optimization: Align legal resources with business priorities to maximize impact.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with regulators, industry bodies, and law firms.
Policy & Compliance: Develop and enforce legal policies to ensure compliance and operational consistency.
All About You
Qualified lawyer with 10+ years of legal experience in both private practice and in-house counsel roles.
Proven leadership of legal teams and executive-level advisory experience.
Proven skills in team management, including supervising and mentoring direct reports effectively.
Strong understanding of the payments industry and regulatory environments.
Demonstrated expertise in transactional legal matters, including contract negotiation, drafting, and review.
Proven ability to support product development and innovation within a highly regulated environment.
Experience collaborating with subject matter experts and partnering cross-functionally to ensure alignment with regulatory and privacy requirements in support of business objectives.
Experience working with regulators and in critical infrastructure sectors.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts.
