Release Manager Mission

Within the Data & Services organization, SessionM, a Mastercard Company (now our Merchant Loyalty Program), is a customer engagement platform empowering global brands to forge stronger and more profitable customer relationships. We partner with brands to drive marketing transformation through innovative technology and services. We are seeking a VP of Engineering to create/enhance/operate exceptional loyalty products, provide global oversight for loyalty and engagement solutions to help our retail customers deepen consumer engagement.

The role of Release Manager is to implement processes, tooling and gating which enables the delivery of more release with efficiency and engineering excellence. Ensure resiliency factors such as: system availability, capacity, performance, monitoring, self-healing, and deployment automation are implemented throughout the delivery process. This role will take a holistic view of the SLDC process and proactively manage production and change activities to maximize customer experience, and increase the overall value of supported applications.

Responsibilities

• Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through deployment, operation and refinement.
• Managing risks and resolving challenges that impact release scope, quality, and schedules
• Planning and optimizing release windows and cycles across portfolios, components
• Producing deployment, implementation, and run books plans, release schedules and corresponding milestone reviews.
• Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, capacity planning and pre-launch reviews.
• Working with release engineers to comprehend code merges and branch ramifications
• Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
• Support the application CI/CD pipeline for promoting software into higher environments through validation and operational gating, automation and best practices.
• Take a holistic approach to problem solving, by connecting the dots during a production event thru the various technology stack that makes up the platform, to optimize mean time to recover.
• Work with a global team spread across tech hubs in multiple geographies and time zones
• Managing relationships working on interrelated processes and communicating crucial release plans and changes
• Measuring and monitoring progress to achieve a timely software release within defined budgetary limits and defined quality standards

Qualifications
• B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience.
• 5+ years of experience managing a full release lifecycle of a highly integrated and complex platform to include managing quality gates and mitigating risks
• Technical knowledge of software development and IT deployment
• Knowledge of DevOps and continuous integration and development (CI/CD) tools
• Experience with agile methodologies.
• AWS or Cloud experience.
• Experience implementing release management tooling and metrics with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
• Experience in dealing with difficult situations and making decisions with a sense of urgency is needed.
• Ability to use qualitative and quantitative analysis to determine changes needed along with the ability to persuade peers and stakeholders.
• Experience in working across development, operations, and product teams to prioritize needs and to build relationships is a must.
