Principal Software Engineer - Solution Architect Overview
Mastercard's Commercial Solutions team is a rapidly growing organization with responsibilities to deliver innovative solutions to help our customers grow and expand their business. Focused on thinking big and scaling fast around the globe, this dynamic team is responsible for end-to-end solutions for a diverse global customer base. We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer – Solution Architect to lead cross-functional development efforts and drive architectural excellence across our suite of commercial products.

Role:
- Design and develop scalable, performant, and secure web applications.
- Provide architectural leadership and technical direction across systems and applications.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
- Champion user-centered design principles throughout the development lifecycle.
- Lead design, technical, and code reviews to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Establish and enforce coding standards and best practices.
- Promote Agile methodologies, continuous integration/delivery, and automation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to manage dependencies and mitigate risks.
- Architect and implement cloud-native solutions using Java Spring/Spring Boot.
- Design and implement scalable solutions on cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.

All About You:
- Advanced knowledge of Java Spring/Spring Boot for backend development.
- Proven experience designing and developing modern, externally facing web applications using frameworks such as Angular or React.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript, including deep understanding of its nuances.
- Expertise in building RESTful APIs following industry best practices.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native architecture and deployment on Azure and/or AWS.
- Familiarity with messaging frameworks and event-driven architecture.
- Experience optimizing web applications for performance and memory usage.
- Knowledge of authentication and authorization mechanisms, including JWT.
- Experience collaborating with Quality Engineering teams to define testing strategies.
- Commitment to code quality through unit testing and end-to-end testing practices.
- Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines and related toolsets.
- Practical experience applying Agile principles and adapting them to team needs.
- Proficiency with Git-based version control systems.
- Demonstrated ability to build ADA and WCAG-compliant web applications. In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time, 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, pro-rated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401k with a best-in-class company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more.

Pay Ranges

Arlington, Virginia: $190,000 - $304,000 USD O'Fallon, Missouri: $165,000 - $264,000 USD
