Mastercard FIT Apprenticeship Program Mastercard Apprenticeship

Have you been considering a career change? Or maybe you want to break into the tech industry but aren't sure how?

Apply for our Apprenticeship and join a comprehensive program that provides you with the skills and training you need to become a Software Engineer at Mastercard. This program will run in partnership with FIT.

Mastercard collaborates with leading business and educational organisations, bringing together the leading minds in Europe and beyond to leverage advanced technologies and deliver innovative solutions to business problems. Our Dublin office is proudly home to Mastercard's only European Technology Hub.

How does it work?
As part of our Software Engineer Apprenticeship, you'll join our team at Mastercard and be assigned a Mentor, who will work with you throughout your 24-month apprenticeship.

Mission Control & Operations: The apprenticeship experience at Mastercard in the Mission Control & Operations area offers students a hands-on opportunity to work with real-time systems that support the company's global payment infrastructure. Through a structured program that combines technical bootcamps, mentorship, and on-the-job training, apprentices gain exposure to network support and operational resilience. Participants contribute to critical functions such as incident response and systems monitoring, while developing skills that prepare them for full-time roles in technology and operations.

Business Operations: The Biz Ops apprenticeship enables individuals to participate in a structured rotation program built around five core badging competency themes: Biz Ops Procedures, IT Service Management/Incident Management -Incident Response, Monitoring and Response, Network Basics and Fundamentals, and Production Readiness. Each theme includes a mix of training, hands-on activities, and job shadowing, designed by subject matter experts to provide a well-rounded learning experience. Throughout the program, apprentices will gain exposure to the operational backbone of Biz Ops, which focuses on ensuring the availability, performance, and readiness of every application. This includes responsibilities such as latency management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning, all aimed at maintaining the health and reliability of the network.

Development: The Software Engineering apprenticeship at Mastercard offers a dynamic and immersive experience that blends real-world development work with structured technical and professional skills training. Apprentices are fully integrated into active scrum teams, where they contribute to solving real-world problems through hands-on coding, testing, and releasing software as part of the team's standard Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) cadence. The program emphasizes practical learning, with apprentices writing production-grade code and participating in the full development workflow. In addition to technical execution, apprentices gain exposure to key agile ceremonies including Program Increment (PI) planning, sprint planning, requirements elaboration, and retrospectives, helping them understand how strategic goals translate into actionable engineering tasks.

Additional Program Efforts: Professional development is also a core component, with training focused on communication, collaboration, and agile team dynamics. Through mentorship, peer collaboration, and continuous feedback, apprentices build a strong foundation in both engineering and workplace readiness, preparing them for long-term success in software development and operation roles at Mastercard and beyond.
