Director, Legal Compliance Overview

Mastercard has been rapidly expanding its wide range of payment solutions by increasing worldwide connectivity in the account-to-account space, enhancing compliance capabilities and offering more robust foreign exchange tools.
Mastercard is seeking an experienced regulatory compliance professional to join our Global Regulatory team to lead the regulatory compliance program for our cross-border account-to-account business, with a focus on European regulatory engagement.

This position is integral to a Mastercard strategic initiative and will report to the Senior Managing Counsel, Regulatory Affairs. The ideal candidate is a compliance champion and proven leader with deep experience in building and supporting compliance management programs and a background in payments and financial technology.

Role

The Director, Regulatory Compliance will lead a team charged with executing the regulatory compliance strategy for our account-to-account cross-border activity to ensure compliance with money transmission and other payment services regulations.

The role will be responsible for developing and implementing enhancements to the global regulatory compliance program, and will require strong leadership, collaboration and execution to ensure regulatory compliance across the business.

Key activities include:
• Lead the development and execution of global regulatory strategy for cross-border account-to-account business
• Lead regulatory engagement with European authorities, including the FCA and Belgian regulators
• Serve as a senior point of contact for European regulatory inquiries and supervisory interactions
• Manage global team of regulatory compliance professionals to meet local regulatory compliance requirements
• Be the point of contact for internal and external regulatory queries related to European activities
• Oversee quality assurance and testing process for regulatory compliance functions
• Design and implement parameters for key risk indicators for escalation to senior management
• Partner closely with AML Compliance, Finance, and other business units to meet regulatory compliance obligations
• Manage ongoing supervision and examinations
• Enhance and maintain regulatory compliance risk assessments
• Maintain strong industry knowledge of regulations, changes, trends and impacts to the business

All About You

• Proven experience developing and managing regulatory compliance programs for large bank or non-bank financial institution
• Proven success in navigating a multi-national organization and operating effectively within a diverse multicultural organization
• Knowledge of EU and UK payment services regulations and license requirements is preferred
• Experience engaging with EU and UK regulators, including FCA and Belgian authorities (MBB)
• Experience with regulatory frameworks or licensing processes in one or more jurisdictions in Africa or the Middle East is strongly preferred
• Self-starter / motivated to work independently and as an effective team member
• Experience managing regulatory supervision is a must
• Proven success in navigating a multi-national organization and operating effectively within a diverse multicultural organization
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must
