Description

Lexington Medical Center is hiring a Physician Assistant in the Emergency Department. Under the supervision of a physician, the PA provides a wide spectrum of direct health care services to clients of all ages. This includes interpreting data, developing and implementing a treatment plan, and following through on patient care within protocols set forth and approved by the physician. The physician assistant also provides psychotherapy, medical evaluation, and management to a range of clients experiencing behavioral, mental, medical, and substance abuse disorders through interviews, health history assessments, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Master's Degree from a college or university accredited by medical bodies such as Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation, American Medical Association, or the Association of Medical Colleges.
Minimum Years of Experience: None.
Required: Approved South Carolina state licensing through a local medical licensing office and/or board of Medical Examiners, as well as maintaining a current BLS certification.
(*Emergency Department Specific - Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)*)

Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Responsive to all patient and staff requests and needs.
2.Provides diagnosis and treatment of common acute illnesses; prevention and maintenance health care to patients with stable chronic illnesses; and performs interim physical examinations for healthy patients within prescribed guidelines:
a.Elicits appropriate present and past medical history and review of systems.
b.Performs appropriate physical examination and orders appropriate diagnostic studies.
c.Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings in history and physical.
d.Establishes appropriate differential diagnosis.
e.Assesses stability of chronic illness and compliance with present therapy; monitors for complications of disease or therapy.
f.Establishes appropriate treatment plan. Assesses need for hospitalization or physician intervention.
g.Determines timing for follow-up and orders appropriate referrals.
h.Counsels regarding health maintenance and disease prevention and provides anticipatory guidance as appropriate.
3.Provides health education to patients about ways to improve, promote, and maintain their health status, including but not limited to providing educational information on disease/disease processes, self-care practices, and positive lifestyle choices (i.e. diabetes, safe sex, weight loss, smoking cessation, etc.).
4.Maintains accurate records, medication lists, and documentation of care and follow-up for administrative purposes and reimbursement of services.
5.Adheres to agreed-upon format/protocol for documentation or records.
6.Maintains appropriate level of documentation to promote/support level of complexity when compared against/to service fee charges.
7.Documents telephone calls with patients and specialists.
8.Provides in-services and clinical education for staff members on an "as needed" basis.
9.Prescribes within the practice agreement set forth by supervising physicians 100% of the time.
10.Ensures updated and accurate practice agreement every 2 years as set forth in rules and regulations for prescribing authority.
11.Demonstrates responsibility for individual performance and efficient utilization of products, supplies, equipment, and time to ensure the timely completion of duties and to promote financial viability through provision of services at a reasonable cost.
12.Provides proper notification for all absences or tardiness, scheduled shift and scheduled time off in accordance with company policy.
13.Employee follows established safety precautions and procedures in the performance of all duties in order to ensure a safe environment
14.Demonstrates a complete knowledge of body mechanics by consistent use in the work setting as evidenced by no injuries sustained as a result of improper body mechanics in the evaluation period.
15.Performs all other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster.
16.Knowledge:
a.Extensive knowledge of the etiology of mental illness
b.Intellectual and developmental disabilities
c.Substance abuse disorders and their treatment by a variety of appropriate therapeutic interventions including psychopharmacology
d.Nursing practice and medical evaluation
e.Physical diseases and their treatment
f.Community resources and networking techniques
g.Psychiatric and medical emergency stabilization.
17.Abilities:
