Job Summary Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible and accountable for producing quality work to prescribed standards, with a focus on continuous improvement to meet customer commitments on schedule and within budget
  • Follow written work instructions
  • Work under minimal supervision on duties and tasks that are frequently non-routine, adapting procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment to meet special needs
  • May perform more detailed tasks requiring deeper knowledge and experience in the specified processes and procedures
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals
  • Able to effectively communicate with other functional departments, such as Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Sales departments
  • Resolve most questions and problems, referring only the most complex issues to higher levels
  • Serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues
  • Be a self-starter and demonstrate good decision making ability
  • Must maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety procedures including those which govern the handling of materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment (WHMIS) 
  • May periodically assist in orienting and training lower level employees 
  • May participate in LEAN Events, “Six S” activities, action teams etc.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Analyze specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assemble parts to make and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools, applying knowledge of tool and die designs and construction; shop mathematics; metal properties; and layout, machining, and assembly procedures    
  • Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product
  • Compute dimensions and plans layout and assembly operations
  • Measure parts to close tolerance using precision measuring devices
  • Set up and operate machine tools (e.g., lathe, milling machine, shaper, and grinder) to machine parts
  • Verify conformance of machined parts to specifications
  • May examine standard or previously used tools or dies and modify as appropriate
  • May develop specifications from general descriptions and make drawing or sketch
  • Apply mastery of skills in adapting procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment, as appropriate
  • Complete machine programming and set-up as required
  • Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to make and repair jigs and fixtures and prototype parts, applying knowledge of tool designs and construction; shop mathematics; metal properties; layout; machining and assembly procedures
  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product
  • Works closely with Engineering on proto-type tooling and designs
  • Computes dimension and plans layout and assembly operations
Job Responsibilities Part II Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 5 years of experience in specialty area e.g. welding, tool making
  • Use of standard machine shop measuring equipment and tools required
  • Knowledge of Geometrical Tolerances
  • Start and stop jobs as required to meet our product line needs
  • Sets up and operates machine tools (e.g. band saw, lathe, milling machine, and surface grinder) to machine parts with a high level of proficiency
  • Verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications
  • Experience with Proto-Trak 2 axis mills desired
  • Experience with Cad software (e.g. Pro-E, Solid-Works) desired
