Job SummaryLeonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a full-time Principal Systems Engineer responsible for the analysis, design, development, and integration of battlefield reconnaissance, survivability, lethality, radar, and electronic system payloads into Mission Equipment Packages (MEPs) for legacy and next-generation combat vehicles. This position, located in Bridgeton MO, is responsible for executing an interdisciplinary systems engineering process to ensure customer technical performance requirements are satisfied in a high quality, trustworthy, cost efficient, and schedule compliant manner throughout a system's life cycle. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and communicate effectively with engineering and management stakeholders and foster an innovative work environment leading to identification of opportunities for improvements in product, process, quality, and productivity.
Job Responsibilities- Direct technical activities of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to develop and deliver Mission Equipment Packages that fully meet system requirements and customer's expectations
- Lead system issue resolution efforts and support attaining customer confidence
- Support architectural design, requirements engineering, modeling & simulation, systems-level documentation, trade studies, risk management, system integration and test, and verification and validation
- Communicate effectively with engineers, executive and senior-level management, and non-engineering support staff to evaluate technical information impacting design, production, and support of products, services, or other deliverables
- Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
- Ensure common understanding of and compliance with all program requirements
- Use engineering/analysis software in the performance of assignments
- Study alternative concepts and use of models and simulations to predict system performance
- Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services
- Support the acquisition of hardware and software (or subcontractor services as needed)
- Participate in the preparation of highly technical proposals
- Provide labor estimates and schedule input for work assignments
- Enforce and integrate systems engineering processes into program plans
- Strive to complete activities on time and budget Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
- Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
- Mentor and coach less experienced engineers
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
- System troubleshooting experience including networking (wireshark), radar, and fire control systems (bore sighting/ballistics)
- Proficient in the use of MATLAB for data analysis, Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, TEAMS), and later versions of DOORS requirements management software
- Must possess excellent analytical and communication skills, written and oral
- Ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS (~10%)
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
The expected pay scale for this position is $113,740.00/year - $176,581.00/year for the state of Illinois. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate's relevant work experience, education/training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
