Job Summary

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer functions as a manufacturing specialist on assigned programs, providing technical support to the manufacturing team. Additional duties include liaising with design engineers, production and quality staff, external customers, and other manufacturing support staff to resolve work process and product development issues and assist in the creation of manufacturing jigs, fixtures, and work instruction development. The Manufacturing Engineer will also collect and analyze data to determine where process support and improvement can occur and support continuous improvement initiatives. 

As a Manufacturing Engineer, your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Production support on a day-to-day basis.
  • Continuous review of work processes and product development to ensure that optimal manufacturing methods are utilized, within prescribed parameters.
  • Prepare and review Production Change Requests (PCRs) and related documentation.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of Manufacturing Execution Software (MES) System as design changes are processed.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and methods and recommend whether to proceed with new methods/products/equipment.
  • Support the development and implementation of new manufacturing processes and assembly techniques.
  • Determine necessary tooling requirements for assembly and develop jigs, fixtures, and other manufacturing aids.
  • Audit production builds with regard to routings, drawings, tooling and equipment.
  • Provide training/coaching on manufacturing techniques and equipment to production staff.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new equipment and future requirements.
  • Program various process equipment.
  • Provide input into time and cost estimates.
  • Support Engineering, and participate in design for manufacturability reviews prior to introducing a new product into production.
  • Provide detailed manufacturing plans & methods to ensure the orderly transition of new programs from development to production.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and proposals of a technical nature.
  • Collect, review, and analyze production data and propose continuous improvement initiatives based on data collected.
  • Performs design, fabrication, modification and/or evaluation of manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct support studies.
  • Provide analysis or tests in the development of manufacturing operations
What you require to be successful in the role:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Novice technical expertise and application domain knowledge.  
  • Basic knowledge of ISO Standards, 6 Sigma tools, Statistics.
  • Ability to understand military specifications and to read technical drawings.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to define problems and drive to root cause and effective corrective action.
  • Work experience within a fast paced electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and takes initiative.
  • Displays integrative thinking ability and creativity.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Strong passion for quality and pride in a job well done.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • MS Office experience required in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Security Clearance
