The Patient Care Technician (PCT) delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the PCT assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the PCT's skills/training and the needs of the Department, and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment.

Patient Care Technician (PCT)

Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute is a 380-bed acute-care hospital offering a full range of services. Lawnwood is home to the most experienced Heart Institute on the Treasure Coast providing interventional and therapeutic care, including open-heart surgery. Other hospital services include adult and pediatric emergency services, labor/delivery and birthing, pediatrics, orthopedics, oncology, nuclear medicine, diagnostic services, as well as inpatient and outpatient surgical services.

 

Lawnwood is designated by the Joint Commission as a Certified Primary Stroke Center. The Physical Rehabilitation Center is CARF accredited and we are designated a Level II Trauma Center by the Florida Department of Health and verified by the American College of Surgeons. We also offer a freestanding ER in Vero Beach providing emergency treatment for adults and children closer to home. Additionally Lawnwood offers the area's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). At Lawnwood patients come first – no matter what! Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participates in the implementation of nursing care plans by performing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the licensed nurse.
  • Obtains and records initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose levels, intake and output, and calorie counts.
  • Monitors patient physical and emotional condition.  Reports any changes in status promptly while Assists patients with activities of daily living to include eating and drinking, bathing, shaving, oral care, grooming, and elimination.  Changes bed linens as needed.
  • Documents observations, interactions, patient responses to performed activities, and any physical or behavioral changes at time of occurrence. Reports observations of individual patients to the RN/Team Leader.

Qualifications

  • Active Certified Nursing Assistant license with the State of Florida is preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required 
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred
  • 1+ year of experience in an acute care setting is preferred
  • Excellent work ethic, professional appearance, and a kind, compassionate demeanor is needed
  • Participants must be able to pass a background check and drug screen
