Case Packer, Operator

This position operates the drop packer and the case former machine and support equipment for packaging product. Performs package changeovers. Performs code checks and inputs case code into marsh coding machine as well as documents verification on daily sheets.
Attends the drop packer machine by operating the equipment efficiently so as not to interrupt the continual running of the production line. Monitors the flow of bottles from the label machine through the cobra laner area and alerts maintenance personnel of any problems. Retrieves bottles out of cases that have flagged or missing labels at drop packer.
Perform minor adjustments on the equipment to insure smooth operation of the production line.
With assistance of the Maintenance staff, perform changeover of the equipment to accommodate the various products and packages that are produced. Empties lines of existing products.
Uses forklift to move corrugate pallets for keeping the case packer stocked. To ensure that production does not come to a stop due to running out of materials.
Record and verify correct case code for each item that is produced. To ensure the accuracy of customer product specifications and eliminate the possibility of any non-conformances.
Keep work area clean and orderly on an on-going basis. To comply with the Company's good housekeeping practices and to eliminate any safety hazards.

The operator must be able to effectively read production schedules and product requirements as they relate to the packer operator position and use that information to efficiently operate the equipment and maintain product quality. The operator must also be able to write and record information on quality logs. The ability to monitor and recognize deviations from established standards and the ability to make adjustments to conform to those standards must be demonstrated.
Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability and skill in using hand tools to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. The ability to climb stairs and ladders.
The operator is required to run the packer machine at a consistent pace, 10% faster than the labeler is running. Through observation and attention the operator must determine if package meets customer standards. If the operator notices deviations he must notify supervisory personnel of non-conformance.
Operator is required to adjust equipment based on observations in order to keep a consistent workflow. If desired results cannot be achieved through equipment adjustments the operator must decide the best course of action for reporting deficiencies to the proper supervisor/manager.
Decisions involving the equipment to which the Packer Operator is assigned. Any decisions made by the Packer Operator would not result in a deviation from customer and/or company standards or requirements.
Company policies, SOP's and work instructions clarify operating parameters. Coding and corrugate selections as indicated on Production Schedules. Quality standards as determined by customer and industry specifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Fork lift experience required. 2 months to operate with supervision. 3 to 4 months to operate unsupervised
Monitoring and troubleshooting the machine. Just a matter of getting to know through trial and error and experience what works best for that particular machine in making adjustments.
Operator must consistently run Box former and packer to meet production goals.
Controlling corrugate waste at the packer machine and controlling downtime at the packer.
