POSITION SUMMARY:

This position assists with procedures including scrubbing, monitoring and positioning patients as needed. This position is also cross-trained in non-invasive procedures including, EKG and stress testing. Assists with hemodynamics, which includes monitoring, cardiac output and intra-aortic balloon pumping. and inventory and quality assurance.


POPULATION SERVED: 

Cardiovascular Services serves adult and geriatric patients with suspected or confirmed cardiovascular disease.  Our patient population is multicultural and has a high prevalence of diabetes and renal disease.  Care planning is individualized based on the patients assessed needs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operates monitoring equipment, troubleshoots unit and develops new programs for the monitoring equipment.
  • Prepare or assist with patient preparation, provides instruction to patient, assist with transportation of patients.
  • Assists in procedures in the capacity of scrub tech, monitoring tech and assists with radiological duties as trained.
  • Functions in all aspects of the Cardiac Cath Lab, with the exception of giving drugs.
  • Prepares equipment at the start of each day, assures equipment is functioning prior to procedure
  • Assures equipment need for procedures are present, maintains sterile technique.
  • Assists with code arrest situations during procedures, including CPR and defibrillation.
  • Assists in non-invasive testing including EKG, and stress testing.
  • Assists Cardiovascular Clinical Coordinator with PI data collection and report generation.
  • Assists with scheduling and office duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

Required

  • High school graduate or equivalent

Preferred

  • Associate of Applied Science
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Required

  • BCLS certification

Preferred

  • ACLS certification
  • RCIS certification
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

Required

  • One-year employment experience in hospital setting as a technician.

Preferred

  • Graduate of an approved cardiovascular program knowledge of Cardiovascular Technology in nvasive and Non-invasive areas.
  • Cardiac Catheterization experience preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Reads and writes basic English
  • Ability to move in excess of 100 pounds with assistance from other staff.
  • Knowledge of dosages and critical care drugs and nursing protocols.
  • Knowledge of EKG arrhythmia and hemodynamic monitoring, and intra aortic balloon pumping.
  • Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners, managerial and employee needs.
  • Cardiac Catheterization laboratory and Cardiology Service experience preferred.
