Description

Thales, within its Identity and Biometric Solutions (IBS) division in Austin, Texas (Onsite), is seeking an experienced Technical Lead/Project Design Authority (PDA).

This role is the main technical leader accountable for the design, architecture, and successful implementation of complex Identity and Biometric solutions. The PDA works under minimal supervision, supporting the Project Manager and leading technical teams to deliver customized solutions that meet high-quality and security standards within target cost and schedule.

Key Responsibilities & Focus Areas
  • Technical Leadership & Architecture: Own the overall solution architecture and design. Lead technical choices (security, performance, constraints) and approve technical documentation.

  • Design and Specification: Translate customer needs into functional specifications, write solution-level requirements, and define interfaces between integrated components.

  • Project Execution: Prepare the Design Validation (DVa) document, manage engineering risks, approve workload estimations, and optimize timelines.

  • Team Coordination: Lead technical meetings, track progress of engineering work packages, drive the project execution process, and coordinate technical teams for solution integration.

  • Bids & Presales: Serve as the primary technical leader for engineering in offers, ensuring solution feasibility, and supporting customer demos/workshops.

  • Reporting & Risk Management: Identify, consolidate, and monitor technical risks, and report project status for the engineering scope to management and the Project Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience: Over 8 years of software engineering experience with strong knowledge of engineering practices.

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

  • Skills: Proven engineering leadership, strong technical background, excellent communication and collaboration skills, strong analytical/problem-solving abilities, and proficiency with project tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).

  • Regulatory: Must have U.S. or Dual Citizenship and be able to obtain post-hire clearance (CFIUS/Department of Treasury).

  • Location: Austin, Texas, USA (Onsite)

  • Travel: Approximately 15-20% annually within NORAM (North American region).
